Intel’s new ultra-low voltage (CULV) platform for UMPC’s
By: Daniel Chubb | January 19, 2009 | Leave a CommentIn the second quarter of 2009 Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) are planning to launch a new consumer ultra-low voltage (CULV) platform for portable computers (UMPC’s / netbooks). The new ultra-portable notebooks are said to have a price point of between $699 and $899.
The new Intel CULV platform will be in direct competition with AMD’s (NYSE:AMD) new Yukon platform and three of the top notebook vendors are rumored to be preparing new notebooks based on Intel’s new CULV platform. The industry is expecting this market to reach 10 million CULV laptops shipped in 2009.
This year will see Intel divide the notebook business into four main areas, which include: ultra-portable notebooks (displays size 11.x- to 13.3-inch), Menlow-based mobile Internet devices (MIDs), Atom or Pineview-based netbooks and 12.1-inch or above traditional notebooks.
Digi Times said that Intel declined to confirm this news by saying they do not comment on unannounced products. Have you gone smaller with you’re computing?
