European Commission attacks Microsoft over Internet Explorer
By: Peter Chubb | January 19, 2009
It seems as if the European Commission has not finished with Microsoft just yet, as they feel that they have some unfinished business with the software giant. A new European Commission says that Microsoft is harming competition, all the time they are bundling Internet Explorer with Windows.
The European Commission said that all the time IE is being bundled in with Windows; it harms competition with other browsers as well as reducing consumer choice. This verdict comes after a year-long investigation, which had been instigated by rival Opera software.
Microsoft now has eight weeks to respond to this report, but there are many experts who believe that all this is unnecessary. Microsoft will have to be prepared for the worst, it was only five years ago when they were fined 1.6 billion Euros for similar offences, as well as another 899 million euro fine last year for late compliance.
