Nintendo Wii and DS dominate 2008 sales charts

We all knew that Nintendo was going to dominate the game sales charts, but we did not know by how much. Both the Wii and DS had a sales boost over the holiday period, but it was the Nintendo DS that sold more units. It shows one thing, Nintendo is still king, and Microsoft and Sony are left bowing before them.

2008 was not a bad year for the gaming industry, December alone saw a 9 percent increase over the same period last year, 2008 saw a 19 percent increase in sales over 2007. December saw sales of over $5 billion, when you look back to 1997 overall year sales was only $5.1 billion.

The Nintendo DS sold 3.4 million units in December alone, making it the first time that the DS has sold more than 3 million units in any one month. The Nintendo Wii sold 2.15 million units, still much better than the Sony PS3 or Xbox 360; they sold 726,000 and 1.44 million unit respectively.
