Netbooks using Intel Atom N280 CPU to ship 2Q 2009

It is expected that a number of 10-inch Netbooks that will use the Intel Atom N280 CPU will be introduced in 2Q 2009. Among those will be the Eee PC 1004DN series, Acer and Gigabyte Technology will launch their Netbooks with the new Intel single-core processor between the second- and third-quarter 2009.
The new processor has a speed of 1.66GHz and a 667MHz FSB; this will be bundled with Intel’s GN40 chipset. The new CPU is priced at $60 to $65 when purchase in a quantity of a thousand, its predecessor was priced at $46.
The new Intel chipset and CPU is hoped to improve both performance and battery life on netbooks, as yet there have not been any tests to back up that claim. When the Eee PC 1004DN series, we will then see how much more performance the new CPU offers.
