Dell Android, S60 Smartphone could launch next month

By: Peter Chubb | January 14, 2009 | 2 Comments

January seems like it is the month for cell phone rumors, the Dell Smartphone has now popped up yet again. These fresh rumors say that we could see a Dell Smartphone launch as early as next month at the 3GSM or Mobile World Congress.

Normally we would regard this as the usual rumor and take it with a pinch of salt, but Dell’s people were at the Adamo event and they were carrying G1s, and Dells director was carrying a Nokia E71 and was talking about how well built the phone was.

This all adds up, as the rumors are that Dell could be working on an Android or S60 device, or maybe both. It is about time Dell entered the Smartphone market, if they want their business to keep moving forward for the future, then Smartphone’s is where it is at.

    My bet is on Android.

Any investment Dell makes in Android, can be directly applied to delivering Android on a Dell netbook, if they choose to do so.

With Asus’ stated intention of delivering an Android device this year and Asus’ membership in the OHA (http://www.openhandsetalliance.com/oha_members.html), Dell can’t afford to get left behind.

Here’s a smart idea. Dell dose make pdas right? So, why not let the user updagrade to the android or what ever softwhere would have been on the smartphone. That whay they can say that they have a phone. Aslo kepp making pdas just have the ablity to download the softwhere for a phone. Mabey the first dell voip phone. Aslo I have seen the amazon kindle have cell phone network as internet mabey include that too.
