Sony PS3 accounts for over two thirds of US Blu-ray players
By: Peter Chubb | January 12, 2009 | 1 CommentIt has been almost a year since Sony’s Blu-ray won the format war against Toshiba’s HD DVD, and since then, Blu-ray player sales have been growing. Figures show that over 10.7 million Blu-ray players have been sold in the US, the Sony PS3 accounts for 70% of those sales, over two thirds.
Another reason why Blu-ray players have become more popular is because falling prices, some players now cost just $199. Despite the fact that a Sony PlayStation 3 cost much more, the idea of having a games console with Blu-ray seems more appealing.
Although Blu-ray is become a more popular format now, it still has a long way to go to catch the current format king, DVD. Blu-ray is a far superior format; it is still the price of both the player and the movie titles that keeps high sales at bay.
