Motorola handset division: 50% layoffs this week?
Filed under: Cell Phone Information, Cell Phones

We are only in our second week of 2009 and already Motorola are talking about layoffs in their handset division. Phonescoop have learned that the layoffs could be as much as 50% of the total handset operation.
It is thought that other areas of Motorola will not be affected; these include enterprise device businesses, set top box and networking equipment. Phonescoop has also learned that Motorola will not have a booth at the 2009 CTIA Wireless trade show in April.
This does show that Motorola are in serious trouble, as that show is the biggest wireless event in the U.S… Motorola are also trimming down the amount of new phones that it will be bringing to the cell phone market, 12 per year have been suggested.
