New Palm Pre will go on sale in European countries
Filed under: Cell Phones, Handsets

It looks like European countries will be getting the new Palm Pre in the same time frame as the U.S., this was confirmed in a brief interview with Palm CEO Ed Colligan. Both areas of the world should get the latest smartphone from Palm (NASDAQ:PALM) in the first half of 2009.
Sprint will be getting exclusive access to the Palm Pre phone and this was confirmed at CES 2009 yesterday. While the United States will support EV-DO Rev A for mobile broadband access, Palm have said that they are working on a 3G friendly version for Europe but they are not giving any details of yet.
Palm has been gaining ground in unit sales with 2008 seeing 780,000 PalmOS based smartphones sold, which is said to be double the year before. The new Pre will feature WebOS, Palm’s new operating system.
Palm has a long way to go if they want to catch up with Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) 4.72 million iPhones sold and RIM’s (NASDAQ:RIMM) 5.8 million units sold.
We will update you when we get the release date and price information.
