Popularity of music downloads vs DVDs and CDs

The Popularity of music downloads has not affected the sales of CDs as much as the industry thought, sales of DVDs have also been very strong over the past year. Sales of DVD movies have increased 1.9 percent; sales were boosted by popular movies such as Mamma Mia and the blockbuster The Dark Knight.

More than 123 million CD albums were sold in 2008, that is a drop of just 6.4 percent, this figure dwarfs the music downloads figure of 10.3million. The DVD format is now ten years old, and it is showing the new boy on the block, Blu-ray who is boss.

ERA have said that people are now staying in more as they have less money to spend, so they would rather go and purchase a DVD and watch the movie with their family. It is for this reason that has helped online stores such as Game and Play.com.
