Low-energy bulbs and Tungsten’s end
By: Peter Chubb | January 7, 2009 | Leave a CommentIt seems that there is no light at the end of the tunnel for the traditional tungsten light bulbs, we will have to get used to using low-energy bulbs. The energy saving bulbs is great for the planet, but people seem to have a hard job embracing them.
There is no choice now, once shops have finished replenishing their stocks of the traditional bulbs, which should be very soon, then they will only stock the energy saving bulbs. This is the second part of the government’s campaign to force people in to purchasing low-energy fluorescent bulbs.
It is thought that by switching to the low-energy bulbs, carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by five million tons a year. 100W and 75W bulbs will run out now, while 60w bulbs will be phased out in 2010. All types of incandescent bulbs will be banned in 2012.
