Xbox 360, a must-buy or not?

That is another year out of the way, and 2008 was a great year for games consoles, but 2009 is set to be a much tougher year. The big three are Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3, when it comes to sales the Wii is in a league of its own. Sony PS3 sales have been stronger in 2008, but the high price is still hurting its sales. That just leaves the Xbox 360, the games console had a slow period in 2008, but with a number of price cuts, the 360 was back.

So is the Xbox 360 a must-buy or not, the console is not selling as much as the Nintendo Wii, but it is a firm favorite with hardcore gamers. Microsoft designed the Xbox 360 to have mass appeal, and you can’t argue the fact that they have done a great job.

There have been a few problems along the way, but Microsoft have been working hard to try and solve the problem, although a little slow. The Xbox 360 has been doing much better in the marketplace than the PS3, but that does not make it the better machine.

    Is anything a “must buy”? It entirely depends on the person, their disposable income and what they need the machine for. In this generation each console has their own USP beyond it’s technical capabilities and exclusive games, factors previously used to decide which console to purchase. The 360 is no more essential than any other console but if you only want to play games, not party games or play Blu-Rays then it’s the console I’d recommend.

    Though they have a 8 million lead over the PS3 they have also had a year lead as well.

    2008 was better year for the PS3 and 2009 will be a even better deal for the PS3. What does the Xbox360 have in 2009. Two Halo Type games and that’s it. Oh yeah, forza and mass effect. Bioshock will probably come out on both systems.

    The PS3 has a much better software line up in 2009. KillZone 2, GT5, Heavy Reain, Uncharted 2, inFamous, God of War 3, Final Fantasy Vs, MAG

    ppl tend to forget this fact apparently. If playstation had an extra year things might be different. you can’t say xbox is winning when they came out a whole year earlier

    VinTheDean:- Wake up & smell the bullshit, you “people” have been spurting the same bullshit for 2 years now, “this year the PS3 will be better….” followed by a list of games that none of you have even play’d yet!?… Just because you have a list of titles doesn’t mean the PS3 is gonna have a killer year? don’t you learn anything?, or do you get a twisted pride from looking very stupid?. if you look at 2008 for the PS3 it had (i know you like listed titles) LBP, Metal Gear 4, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, did the corn pop?….no. So wait till the games are out, they are good, & things are looking better for the PS3 before you find yourself saying, “yer but in 2010 the PS3 is gonna…”….yawn….

    p.s. i own a PS3………. all i can say is, thank god it plays films.

    That is what I am saying. M$ says the same thing. I did not state that PS3 will beat the Xbox360 in TOTAL Sales. I know that this may never happen because of the ONE YEAR LEAD that M$ had.

    What I am saying that the PS3 had more amazing games and features released that the Xbox360 in comparison. That is my opinion and many may say that I am wrong including you. But hey to each his own.

    But you can not argue the fact how much progress the PS3 has made in it’s games and features in just two years compared to the Xbox360 that was out a year earlier and has had a longer Gaming Network.

    Also, what MdChaos, Slippy Sloppy and myself are saying is that if both consoles where released at the same time, the numbers would be alot different for Xbox360 and PS3. VGChartz gives us a glimpse into to what that “might” of been.

    @ vinthedean, I’m not really fussed about sales. Who sold wot or how many,
    I care about games & gaming. In my opinon the ps3 still isn’t delivering as a games
    Console, its not got what the 360 had at the same point, the ps3 is a good console
    But they have really missed the boat this gen by focusing on other areas.
    Can they recover? Probably but this gen is has proved that playstation brand
    Has been serverally damaged. I’ve always been a ps guy loved 1 & 2, but I got a 360
    Got on live & it all changed, I have my life on live now, friends gamescore achivements
    The ps3 i got a year ago bought mgs4 it & I get films, its not a console I play.
    The 360 will be this gens ps2, & that will put ms in a very strong position next gen.
