Windows 7 beta 1 outperforms Vista and XP
By: Peter Chubb | January 6, 2009 | 1 CommentAdrian Kingsley-Hughes from ZDNet wanted to put together a little test to see which OS was faster. The operating systems in question were Windows 7 beta 1, Vista and XP, but it was not your average test, it was 23 real-world scenarios to see which the quickest OS was.
The version being tested were 32-bit versions of Windows 7 build 6.1.7000.0.081212-1400, Windows Vista SP1 and finally Windows XP SP3. There were two test machines being used, an AMD Phenom 9700 2.4GHz, which had 4GB of RAM and a ATI Radeon 3850. The second test machine had an Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 2.2GHz, just 1GB of RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS GPU.
On both machines Windows 7 managed to outperform both XP and Vista, which gives us some hope that Microsoft are building a much better OS than Vista, let us hope that it will be a stable one this time. Just remember that Windows 7 is still in the beta stage, so do not try and install it on your computer.
