Motorola CES 2009: Limited Line-Up
Filed under: Cell Phone Information, Cell Phones

CES 2009 is not going to be one of the greatest shows this year as companies are now feeling the pinch. Motorola Inc. has a limited line-up; even Microsoft is not bringing anything new to the show. Motorola will only be showing a few new handsets at the Consumer Electronics Show, as they struggle to keep up with rivals, such as Nokia and Samsung.
We do have to remember that Motorola does not always show of their best handset at CES, they normally save that for the big wireless trade shows, such as CTIA and GSMA Mobile World Congress. This year could be a different story, as the company has canceled a number of phones that was in development.
We can see that things are not going to great for Motorola as the new phones that they have on show at CES 2009 are full of gimmicks, and do not center around new technology. Motorola have said that they will launch new phones that feature Windows Mobile as well as Google Android.

Motorola should consider refreshing some of their existing WinMo phones (e.g. Motorola Q) with Android. That way, they can:
1. quickly establish themselves as an Android smartphone leader (right now, HTC is set to benefit most from this).
2. reuse some of their existing hardware designs, saving time & money.
3. generate immediate sales, while they develop new generation Android phones.
Android offers Motorola their best chance to recapture momentum in the mobile space, but they need to make it happen quickly.
