Blu-ray sales up 400% as prices fall
By: Peter Chubb | January 6, 2009 | Leave a CommentIt has certainly been a great Christmas for Blu-ray as sales have increased by 400% from the same period last year. There were those who thought that the Blu-ray format would not do well this year, well these sales figures has just proved them all wrong.
Almost 1.5 million Blu-rays were sold in December 2008, and hopefully those figures will stay high as the price of a Blu-ray movie tile is expected to fall in January. In the past year 3.7 million Blu-ray discs were sold in the UK, this has been helped by the price of Blu-ray players falling to under £100.
It should not be that long before we all have a Blu-ray player in our home. I am a fan of Blu-ray but I am not getting ahead of myself, just consider that 253 million DVDs were sold in the UK in December. That is just one month, so you can see that Blu-ray still has a long way to go.
