Nintendo Wii Sports best selling game ever surpassing Super Mario Bros.

Nintendo must be feeling very happy right now as Wii Sports has new become the best selling video game ever, surpassing Super Mario Bros. Over 40 million units of Wii Sports have now been sold; this figure includes bundles which has helped it become the best selling game.
Wii Sports has sold 40.52 million copies, but it is expected to reach at least 50 million. The closest rival is Super Mario Bros on the SNES, that shifted 40.42 copies, third is Pokémon Red / Green / Blue, GameBoy with sales of 31.38.
When you view the top 10 bestselling video games, they are all for the Nintendo Wii, SNES, DS and GameBoy. The only non-Nintendo games are GTA: San Andreas, which stands at number 15. This does prove one thing, when it comes to video games, Nintendo are king.

It’s a bit rubbish that their best selling game ever came free with the console and owners had no choice but to own it. Having said that it probably helped to sell more Wii consoles than anything else but how many people bought a Wii and never purchased another game?
I still reckon if it was a stand alone game it wouldn’t have made a 10th of those figures.
wasn’t super mario bros. the exact same situation? it was always a package deal. there are always a lot of loopholes for a game to be declared “best-selling” and such.
