Netbooks finally beat desktop sales: Acer catching Dell
By: Peter Chubb | December 24, 2008 | Leave a CommentGlobal sales of Netbooks are now exceeding desktop sales on a quarterly basis for the first time, proving that the small netbook is now an important part of the computer family. There are a number of reasons why this is, price, size and the ability to have mobile broadband built in.
Sales of these netbooks have done so much good for companies such as Acer who have a range of netbooks, as they are now closing the gap on No.2 Dell. Acer has now shipped 3 million more netbooks in its third quarter than in the previous quarter.
iSuppli have said that netbook shipments have now rose by 40 percent in the third quarter of 2008 over the same period last year. Netbook sales hit 38.6 million, and that figure should be even more in the fourth quarter of 2008.
