PS3 Home Open Beta: First Impressions

We all know that Sony PS3 Home has just recently launched as an open public beta, and this latest version seems a completely new experience over the closed public beta that used to be available. N4G decided to give us their take on Home, as their first review called the service useless.

They had said that “the whole experience was uneventful and almost forgettable.” Now that version 1.03 has arrived all that has now changed. The biggest change for Sony PS3 Home is that there are now lots more people to interact with.

When you used to visit Home Square before, the place was like a ghost town, i am sure that I saw tumbleweed rolling around. Now the Square is packed with Home users, all trying out their cool dance moves and always walking up to girls to strike up a conversations with them.

The Square has now received a complete redesigned, and a new saucer based game in the center just seems to draw you in, which is very entertaining. Just run to the lake and then press ‘X’ to join the game.

I am so disappointed with Home, after all the delays i really thought they would get it right, now i think they were better of not doing it at all and getting my hopes up. I was going to go back and give it another try but then the servers were down and i couldn’t get back in so i’ve just given up. Maybe i’ll try it in a couple of months time and see if it’s got any better but right now it’s not worth the bother.

Spent 15 mins customising my character - despite having a lot of options my Mii still looks loads more like me, that’s ok though as ended up with Clark Kent and I was happy with that. I walked out onto the balcony and it crashed. After that I really couldn’t be bothered to try it again though I probably will to see what the fuss is about.

What are people expecting? This is just a way to get people talking, which is something the PS3 really needs right now (are all PS3 users that shy?). This is not a game, it’s a chat service like msn (only in 3D)… Give it a chance, its only been out five minutes…

It’s a shame that it’s not a dashboard environment, it’d be pretty cool to run your system from your home and visit other people’s PS3s. Maybe this will come in time.

This is less exciting than Animal Crossing. The clothes might be worth the $0.49 price tag if there was anything interesting looking. Seriously, can I buy a jump button? This would be much better if I could buy a samurai sword and slice up all the dancers.
