PS3 Home Open Beta: First Impressions

We all know that Sony PS3 Home has just recently launched as an open public beta, and this latest version seems a completely new experience over the closed public beta that used to be available. N4G decided to give us their take on Home, as their first review called the service useless.

They had said that “the whole experience was uneventful and almost forgettable.” Now that version 1.03 has arrived all that has now changed. The biggest change for Sony PS3 Home is that there are now lots more people to interact with.

When you used to visit Home Square before, the place was like a ghost town, i am sure that I saw tumbleweed rolling around. Now the Square is packed with Home users, all trying out their cool dance moves and always walking up to girls to strike up a conversations with them.

The Square has now received a complete redesigned, and a new saucer based game in the center just seems to draw you in, which is very entertaining. Just run to the lake and then press ‘X’ to join the game.

I have just download home and the 30 mins later deleted it, what a complete waste of time. Does Sony really believe this is anything but a total waste of money and peoples time. There is nothing at all to keep me interested. But I will say one thing it is a open book for pedophiles. I have a 360 too and love live, all the people on it are friends that I have invited to my account, knowbody is a stranger. But on home they are all strangers and I have know idea how are what they are. This is very dangerous for a games console that attracts kids. Its like having a social networking site for Barbie. I only have one thing to say to Sony ” You have lost the plot completely”. Time to say good bye to the Playstation Brand “Goodbye”

that is why the eula is in place. to restrict ages of people on there. there will be an age restriction on there and a monitoring thing in place soon i should imagine.

if people lie about age then not much anyone can do.

home is what it is… i actually enjoy what its trying to do… admittedly the loading between areas is a bit poor… but again its a beta and something to rectify.

i think there are positives to take from it…. and negatives. again its a beta.

think of it as a way to make friends in a 3d forum for your games collection.

nxe was final on release… perfect pretty much from what i hear alot of xbox fans claim…however not so perfect if you remove your rose tinted specs.

it caused alot of rrod’s, it freezes randomly…

i owned 360 before got very bored very quickly…

only game id love to see on ps3 is pgr4.

Barren parking lot, is my impression. Absolutly empty and void of content.

If you like standing around and watching other people’s avitars stand there, then this is the place for you..

You have to desparate to find a gaming friend to even bother with HOME..

Sony launched nothing. Home is simply nothing the way it is.

Fanboys will cry like they always do,”Wait it will get better”…Yeah yeah like all the other things we are still waiting to get or get better from Sony right…

  6. carla says:

Standing there pushing the dance button gets bored in 1 minute..

They did it all wrong..Sony exec\’s should all be fired…

    Sony killed the PS3!!!

  7. mobiletone says:

@ PS3 FTW - instead of a poor second life rip off on the ps3 you mean?

deleted HOME already. may reinstall it if ever they fix it. nearly as good as ‘life with playstation’ hey? when was the last time anyone ran that instead of doing something more interesting on the console..

  8. ace says:

Why do people moan so much about something that free. if you bought a car from a dealer and a year later they offered you a optional new fancy cd player and you didnt like it would you complain and say the company execs should be fired and the company has gone down hill. let me answer that for you NO because it is free it is optional and more importantly its your opinion not everyones.

now im not going to claim its great because firstly its beta so its got bugs secondly it does lack some content. as for avatars doing nothing try walking abit you dummys everytime ive been on lots has been happening if u walk out ur appartment door. games being played people takling lots of dancing. its not great yet its a good start and yeh people say “oh but u gotta pay for extra items” well yeeeahh duhh its a free service they get funded but EXTRAS and advertising when have you ever turned out your tv and gone OMG theres adverts and if i want more channels i gotta pay more i better complain again you dont because its obvious

to summerise home = good but needs more content has MASSIVE potention remeber its in BETA ppl and people moaning about paying or errors or nothing on there stop moaning its free you wouldnt moan about free products after sale from anyone else what makes sony so special

  9. mobiletone says:

hey ace - i’m going to take a big dump in a box and send it to you, it’s free right, so you can’t complain!!

they only slapped the ‘beta’ tag on to cover their arses, for all purposes it’s a full release (v1.03). it’s been in closed beta for long enough to get the bugs out, i was in it!! and even up to a few days before it went ‘open’ we were still running load tests. and it worked fine. it was massively over subscribed at launch hence all the errors.

give it enough time, people will get fed up trying and go and do something better, like playing games on their games console! then people who really need HOME in their lives will get in.

AFAIC i’ve done my part in the closed beta, time to move on now.

  10. ace says:

Think you missing the point in optional!! if it was something as bad as ur dump id opt out and have a laugh with mates about it. its on a console so even if i thougt it would be great and it turned out as bad as your dump i think i could handle the incredibly tasking job of pressing triangle and selecting delete or is that too hard for you. millions of people already like home unlike your dump so stop insulting your own inteligence by complaining as for just slapping a BETA tag on it but it still being a final version i suppose that pc you on was release at version 1.03 of its OS and never been fixed again after its closed BETA and years or testing has it? if so please tell me what your using id be amazed. i do agree they have had more than enough time to come up with more than what its got so far and that a program like home shouldnt take anywhere near this long but as i tried explaining before its free
