In an interview with Michael Denny, it has been revealed that the reason Sony cancelled games such as Eight Days and The Getaway is because they plan to focus on more social gaming projects for the Playstation 3.
Sony has enjoyed successes with social games such as SingStar, Little Big Planet, Buzz and its long awaited Home application. Sony believes that they can gain a ‘niche’ for their console by focusing on the social aspects of gaming.
What do you think about this story? The facts speak for themselves as it’s true that all of its social games released so far have all been successes. SingStar has been so successful that it prompted Microsoft and Nintendo to follow with similar games on their own. It’s only a matter of time before Home takes to the main stage and really starts to offer gamers something unique. Let us know your views.

please replace the word ’social’ with ‘casual’ thank you. Sony just wants a bit of Nintendo’s pie and is prepared to shaft it’s hardcore consumers in the act. there is a reason we bought a PS3 instead of Wii y’know.
I wouldn’t really put LBP in the same class as Buzz and Singstar…
Everyone wants a piece of the casual gaming pie these days. I don’t honestly think it’ll affect the hardcore that much (apart from the odd cutesy avatar here and there).
The Getaway should have been canned after the first one, not really a hardcore gamer’s game…
