Nokia N97 Has Old Processor: Would you upgrade?

By: Alan Ng | December 8, 2008 | 2 Comments

Latest rumours regarding the Nokia N97 are suggesting that the phone will use the same ARM11 processor that was used for the N95 albeit with a higher clock speed.

For fans who really pay attention to these sorts of things, this may come of a disappointment then if the rumours are true, as some hoped Nokia’s new phone would come equipped with the newer TI IMAP 3 processor.

Until we hear any official news from Nokia, this should be treated as a rumour just for now. But if it does turn out to be true, are you even bothered about it that much? Would this affect your decision in getting an upgrade? Let us know your views.

    NOT A BLOODY CHANCE!

If they dare put a cheapo processor inside, they can say goodbye and I’ll be buying an Android based handset next time!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi,
Yes, I would mind it, if the new N97 were to use the ARM 11 CPU. The new screen and functionalities might need more juice! I bought the N96 (BIG mistake) with the ARM9 and rapidly switched back to my old N95 8GB as the N96 CPU is so slow that makes it impossible to use in every day conditions. It is a true hindrance to have to wait up to 2 or (INCREDIBLE BUT TRUE) 3 seconds to display my contact list!!! With this comparison at hand, I think that the new N97, which boasts a touch screen, might well require a more powerful CPU. I’m buying the N86 (with that same 3 years old ARM11 CPU even if clocked at 433GHZ) and we’ll see.
    Ciao,
    Tommaso
