New Xbox 360 Game Needs 3 DVDs: PS3’s Blu-ray would do in one

Star Ocean: The Last Hope will be released soon on the Xbox 360 in North America, and Sony PS3 users will be laughing, as the game will be on 3 DVD discs. The Sony PlayStation 3 would do it on just one Blu-ray disc
Do not get me wrong, the Xbox 360 has an amazing online experience, but their DVD technology is a big problem. It’s like having a CD drive instead of DVD on PC’s by using DVD rather than Blu-ray, so why does Microsoft still use old technology.
There is a worry that as games get bigger and offer more detail, Xbox 360 games will need even more than the 3 discs that Star Ocean: The Last Hope has. We would just like to know if Xbox 360 users are happy with the old DVD format, or would that much rather games on the Blu-ray format. Please do not think that we am running the Xbox 360 down, it is still a fantastic games console, and the sales figures speak for themselves.

Why is it a big problem. You play the game for 4/5 hours then you change the DVD.
Doen’t sound too bad to me!
The only time it will become a problem is if every game is put onto more than 1 disc. I can imagine it getting annoying if every game came like that.
this wouldn’t stop me choosing a 360 though.
I have both machines and feel its time to get rid of the 360.
It’s the unreliability, and expense that has driven me to get rid.
I’m up to my 3rd year LIVE subscription and have decided to not bother. Also want to get rid of the 10ft wire running across my lounge (Not spending £60 on wireless!).
Good thing is I have a 3 year old 360 that has all new components after replacing broken ones.
The reality is, if I had bought a full priced PS3 when they came out it would have been cheaper after 3 years. I only realise now when its too late.
I’m not sure how you can consider the PS 3to be the best. If you think some of the things you said some of them just don’t make any sense. For instance the Xbox 360 has spanked the ps3 in the sales department in the last 2 months and probably for the month of December as well. Not to mention that the 360 just had it’s best sales month in Europe ever and in Japan recently when it badly outsold the PS3. I will concede that is probably not to going to happen very often if ever again. Oh and you mentioned the ps3 has sold 70% of total Xbox 360 sales. Think about what you just said. You sound like the 360 sold 100% in its first year and that the PS3 is closing the gap. The 360 has been out for 3 years and so by your reckoning the PS3 is pretty well still a year behind the Xbox 360 in total sales.
As far as great Xbox exclusives go we have Halo 3, Fable 2, Gears 1, Gears 2, and Mass Effect. Not to mention that call of duty 4 played slightly better on the 360.
Honestly some of your great “EXCLUSIVES” are admittedly pretty bad. Take socom confrontation. Also explain how Tekken 6, street fighter 5, getaway 3 are even worth playing. Oh and funny thing I thought Final Fantasy 13 was coming out on the 360. Oh and you are so right, Killzone 2 is overrated.
Can the 360 output true 1080p? Yes but maybe you have been in the dark about this but most games coming out on this generation of consoles don’t even support 1080p natively. It is left to the consoles to up-convert. Take Grand Theft Auto 4. The game actually supported a significantly higher resolution natively on the Xbox 360 than your beloved PS3.
Oh and lastly lets talk about the cell processor. Lets just get one thing out of the way first. The 360 has a more powerful GPU than the PS3 and overall better system. I will concede that the cell processor in the PS3 is far more powerful than the CPU in the Xbox 360. However the PS3 has no system to back it up and therefore Sony can claim all they want that developers can never take full advantage of the PS3. At best maybe 3 or 4 cores may be takes advantage of this generation. Sony is even talking about using the same processor in the PS4 which honestly makes total sense. Oh and this may come as a blow to you. Not even the processor in the 360 has ever been takes full advantage of. In fact it’s never come that close.
Oh and lastly the only reason Killzone 2 might actually have the visuals claimed is because of the space offered on the Blu-Ray disc. Nothing more. The DVD just limit developers in this way on the 360 but there is no reason developers should be limiting themselves to one disc.
Listen guys get a grip, this article is about storage not about which console is better or has better games , blu-ray is better than dvd as it can hold more . thats all its saying .
i did have A 3 FIX ME but it RROD on me so i bought a ps3 , i stil play xbox games on my friends console, its pretty good all my other friends did have x boxes and traded them in to use the media features of ps3 as well as gaming ,
to be fair both have their own exculsives , but every other 3rd party game that sells the most are available on both formats ,
dont get me started about the Wii i bought my 3 year old one and he loves it , the games are crap unless your under 10 years old or a old couple. only sells well as is cheap , and has a magic wand control, real gamers play what they want for me its about quality hardware , future proof and upgradable firmware/feature and good games .
GHWT rules on both consoles
I know what the article is about and if you read my comment I give credit to a console where it’s due. I was just merely pointing some things out. If Sony were to come out with the better console in my opinion I would back that console.
Its all about costs. To keep the cost of the Xbox down, they had to go with DVD. If the Xbox would have started out with Blu-ray (back then when then when there wasn’t a winner) it would have cost them more in the end.
Today there might be a need for the Blu-ray, but it isn’t to the point to where EVERY game is going to be 3 discs.
Even now if they do a blu-ray drive, they still would have sale the DVD version of the game? Also I wondering which costs more to make, to put a game on 3 dvd’s vs 1 Blu-ray.
If there is anything to complain about, complain that Wii can’t even Play DVD movies! They did that for the same reason to cut costs!
well max, if you haven’t noticed, price plays a major role in what systems get bought, for example, when the ps3 was 600$, much fewer were bought
cutting costs is often to make things more affordable
and actually, 3 dvd’s is cheaper than 1 blu ray
and this is basicly a ps3 vs 360 article, why bring up the awesome wii?
its a shame that there are so many of you u who clearly know fuck all about computers or sales fingers and are to raped up in your fan boy ways to realise!!! i am farley neutral when it comes the consoles (i do lean to wards the xbox) i think the ps3 is grate in many ways and crap in others i love the blue ray and cell cpu free online play but lets face it the graphics chip isn’t up to it! it less powerful with much less stuff than the 360’s chip! The 360 is far closer to a pc in set up and is much easer to program for! The lack of games which make me want a ps3 is blatant mgs4 and lbp omg i mush get one! the last thing is the price at £300 odd it way to expensive much rather put the money to a high end pc (gtx280 going fot less than 300 now) ! if it was £200 i would be much more likely to buy the thing! I said i would buy one at a later date when the price dropped! but the gpu is going to be so out dated i just don’t see it happening!
I’ll take 3 discs over 1 disc that REQUIRES an install.
I will take one disk and a one time load (most of the time with all games except mgs4) lol… over scratched disks that’s right ms is getting sued for it too… Don’t put xbox360 on it’s side my buddy bought 4 copies of oblivion because of that crap… and if that’s not enough the 3 rings of death too. All in all 360 has excellent properties just unreliable and cheap construction. Just my opinion. Oh and what happens if disk 2 of 3 doesn’t work? Lol…
