Shoppers on the hunt for a Nintendo DS or DS lite have been warned about the growing number of fake machines on the market.
Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have obtained hundreds of fake handhelds at freight depots around the country. If you are one of those shoppers who look on places like Ebay, you should take extra care to ensure you are buying a genuine machine.
The HMRC have said that the fakes were being purchased from a variety of Asian-based websites for around £40 as opposed to £100 and were being sold as ‘genuine Nintendo products’.
Pamela Rogers, HMRC’s Head of Intellectual Property, highlighted the potential dangers of buying fake gear and said: “At best, these consoles would have led to disappointment on Christmas morning; at worst, they could have caused serious harm or injury.’’
So there you have it guys, make sure you are extra careful this Christmas when buying goods online, especially when you see items at a unusually low price. Let us know if you have had any experiences of this to share.
