Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 vs Nokia N97

Whenever a new handset is announced it starts a flood of comparisons against a cell phone that it will be competing with. The latest announcement from Nokia is the newest N-Series phone, the N97. So what phone will the N97 be competing with, well that would be the new Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1.

Both phones are very similar in design, apart from the fact that the N97 has much rounder edges, I really like the design of these two phones. So let us look at the features of each phone to see how they match up.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 3.15 inch touchscreen, Full QWERTY keyboard, 3.15 megapixel camera with autofocus and video camera. Other features include GSM, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Built-in GPS receiver, up to 833 hours standby and up to 10 hours talktime.

Nokia N97 features include, 3.5 touchscreen, Full QWERTY keyboard, A-GPS sensors and an electronic compass, 32GB storage with a further 16GB microSD available, giving the phone up to 48GB storage. Other features include, 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, G, Wi-Fi and much more.

It is hard to choose between the two, as both phones look sexy, but the specs on the Nokia N97 looks so much better.

Actually the X1 has A-GPS also, not just a GPS receiver.

  • Dafty

The X1 can take up to 32gb MicroSD HC, this sint really a comparison.
At least it is comapred to the phone its competing with and not the ipod.

X1 is available NOW!! and Nokia N97 will be available sometime in First Half of 2009. Now, Thats a huge difference!!

  • Alfino

Guys, lets check the hardware specs of x1.
first, x1 has a dualcore qualcom amr cpu runs at 0.5ghz.
384mb of ram plus ati 3d embeded machine.
x1 will got more productivity rate.

Well, as you can read in the links given in “Relevant Posts” below, rumor has it that “HTC is to make the XPERIA X1 for Sony Ericsson”. So the biggest competitor is HTC.
No matter who make it, we all know that technology is in permanent progress: the newest is supposed to be the best. Who knows in the next few days SE will announce an X2 phone with similar storage and 10 mpx camera?
They are both the great phones with slight differences of storage and camera but for the SAME PRICE I prefer X1 for name, look, and GPS capabilities (GPS Receiver and aGPS)

Technology is in permanent progress: the newest is supposed to be the best. Who knows in the next few days SE will announce an X2 phone with 100 GB storage and 10 mpx camera?

well both r nice phones, but both phones come in high range regarding spendings,
x1 in more latest, but n97 has more clear camera becoz of 5 mp as compared to x1 3.15 mp. but both r good. both r tough dare to each other

  • dude

Yea, irrelevant comparison. X1 is available right this minute, Nokia sometime next year.

Nokia are WAY behind the curve at the moment …

  • juane

The capabilities of N97 far surpass X1. So why settle for less???

  • Didi

This is a daft argument and comparison. The X1 is superb but the N97 will no doubt be a better phone. It depends if you want it now or March, almost six months between the release dates! It is like comparing the N97 to a phone coming out late 2009!

  • Victor Chaves

The point is that SE X1 is available now. You can say N97 WILL be a better phone but then I can say SE X99 WILL be a much better phone WHEN it comes out. Nokia is obviously far behind in the high-tech race.

  • wisdom

Waiting for: a 1GHz processor, a 1 GB RAM, a XGA (1024 x 768 pixels) display, a 10 MPX camera with flash, a full HD video recording, a 100 GB storage, a 100Mbps WIFI, GPS and a-GPS, on screen QWERTY keyboard, Digital TV (DVB-H), etc. are high-end features of the future phones and so will be my next phone. Who will make the first one? HTC, Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung … Until then I will not buy any phone.

  • Jack

I don’t want to launch myself in a discussion until I didn’t even touched the phones , but until now I didn’t say ONE windows mobile which didn’t crash or had some stupid issues. I am looking forward to see the xperia at work..but if the menu animations aren’t smooth enough..if after a while it will be laggy because it has some processes in the background.. I would rather buy another cheap phone and an laptop.. Nokia made wonders with the n97 you must realise that is not just a fancy gadget , I can beet by now that the camera is far beyond xperia… windows mobile simply sucks at this stuff . and not only the camera… is even cheaper etc.

  • Reverten

    Hmmm… Windows Mobile vs Symbian.
    Of course Windows Mobile!

  • wisdom

For me the real high-tech phone race is the power and “Toshiba TG01 mobile phone” is the first one to cross the line of 1 GHz processor speed. The phone is a 4.1-inch full touch screen (the largest display in the history of mobile phones), a Qualcomm snapdragon 1GHz chipset, Windows Mobile 6.1, etc. We will probably see the Toshiba TG01 at MWC 2009 and learn more about it.

  • Brunte Quintus

Acually, I allways look at screen resolution when deciding on a new phone. The Xperia has 800*480 in comparison to n97´s 640*360. Important aspect for me. Maybe not for others.

  • lol

lol X5 in development 8mp cam…phones just keep on changingggggg

  • Zaki

    hi
X1 camera provides high performance compaired with N97 even it is less than 5mpx of the Nokia.

  • John

    Just a small comment,
Camera of the x1 is way better with a touch focus and it is a cybershot camera unlike the 5mp carl zeis wich will be lower in quality.
Sound wise the x1 is way better because it has got the sony software and hardware.
more to that sony ericsson has got the mobile 6.1 with touch flo 3d wich is way beter than the symbian and way more customizable and more apps can be downloaded to this phone unlike the n97.
Finally the N97 is a pure copy of the x1 and iphone combined because it is the last one to be released.
And no one likes an idea stealer.

  • BLuE FalcoN

    Xperia X1 is a windows mobile(Windows 6.1)
U can never have a comparison between a Windows Mobile and
    a non-windows mobile.
Truly N97 has got good multimedia features but can never
    compete with Xperia X1.

  • deepak
