Nintendo Wii: Only six dollars made on each sale

Here’s an interesting story for you guys. David Gibson (who is a Macquarie Securities analyst) has said that Nintendo makes $6 profit for every Wii console purchased by the public.

If you take that figure and put it into perspective, Nintendo have made almost $4.2 million alone from North American Wii hardware during October.

He also pointed out that Microsoft only break even with their Xbox 360 console, while Sony actually loses cash whenever someone buys a PS3. Who knows if there is any truth to this story, but you check out the link for more details if you wish.

“Only 6 dollars”? As the article points out this has meant massive profits when companies are lucky to break even at any point in a console’s life.

When Nintendo release the Wii Too they’ll use current gen tech to ensure costs are low and profits are made. It’s a tactic which has served them well with their handhelds and they’ve now proved it can work with their home systems. Nintendo are also the only company out of the big three that will ever get away with this strategy.
