Intel and Hitachi will be joining forces to co-develop solid-state discs (SSDs), they will be joining hands to co-develop the SSDs for the enterprise market which is very good news indeed.
Hitachi will move forward by incorporating Intel’s NAND flash inside of its drives, if everything goes to plan they are hoping to release the first batch early 2010. Hitachi has said that both Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and Fiber Channel (FC) drives are being designed and will hopefully release on the date stated above.
Intel has backed the development and of course the formation of the SSD market, these new solid-state discs (SSDs) will be branded and will also be sold exclusively and of course supported by Hitachi GST, Hitachi will continue to develop, market and sell its SATA SSDs.
This is great news and it looks like 2010 is promising in the way of solid-state discs, Shinjiro Iwata, executive vice president of strategic business operations at Hitachi GST said
“We understand the needs of today’s enterprise customers and are committed to delivering breakthrough products that increase their data center performance and reduce total cost of ownership, by expanding our product line-up to include both traditional enterprise hard drives and new SSDs, Hitachi GST will continue to provide customers with a proven set of products tailored to meet the high-performance, high-reliability requirements of today’s data center.”
