Cut Price Sony PS3’s: Now more competitive

Sony have maintained that they will not offer cut price savings on the PS3 over the Christmas period, but Sony are offering some savings if you purchase one from their website. Although this is not a permanent price cut, it is better than nothing.

When you visit Sony Europe’s online store Sony Style, they are offering their 40GB, 80GB and 160GB versions of their PlayStation 3 at a reduced price. The 40GB version is just £249.99, that’s £40 off, add just an extra £10 and you can double your storage space to 80GB.

We do not mind so much if Sony do not offer an official price cut for the PS3, just as long as they keep offering money of deals. Sony keep giving at the moment, they are offering free shipping until the end of the month.

Has Sony done enough to help with their sales of the PlayStation 3, or would you still welcome an official and permanent price cut?

    NO PRICE CUTS!!!! Just make a final decision on your hardware, Sony. I have the 60GB version that allows backwards compatibility on over 95% of all PS1 & PS2 games which I bought for $499.99 last Christmas season (2007). I also got a free controller and 5 free Blu-Ray movies with that purchase at the SonyStyle retail store here in Orlando, FL.

    Hands down the Sony PS3 is the best next-gen console on the market. Here’s why I feel this way:

    * FREE built-in wireless vs. M$’s $99 wireless add-on
    * FREE built-in Blu-Ray Disc Player vs. M$’s HD-DVD add-on that is now obsolete
    * FREE online gaming chat (very limited but PlayStation Home looks promising) vs. M$’s $50 annual XBox Live Gold subscription
    * You can connect up to 7 controllers to one console vs. M$’s 4
    * Sony has given the ability to play over 95% of previous generation games vs. M$’s STILL LIMITED selection.
    * The PS3 had (and still has) HDMI capabilities out of the box when it first launched. M$ just recently came out with HDMI support.
    * There’s no ugly clunky power brick that takes up space behind or around the TV like the XBox 360 does.
    * It runs A LOT QUIETER than the XBox 360 while playing games, DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, etc.

    These are just a few of the many reasons why Sony should NOT cut the price of this magnificent machine. Don’t get me wrong, the XBox 360 is a sweet machine but it is still way too expensive in the long term. Also, many new games don’t offer local multiplayer interaction (look on the back of game boxes) for times when friends and family are in town (ANOTHER DISCUSSION TOPIC?). You are forced to go online to get your multiplayer fix which stinks for people that can’t or don’t want to pay $50+ a month for High Speed broadband service (ANOTHER DISCUSSION TOPIC?).

    My $0.02 worth!

    *But what if i dont need built in wireless or a hi def player? It gives me the option and i’m not forced to pay for something i might not use.
    *When would you actually need to connect 7 controllers? are there actually any games that make use of this?
    * You cant play PS2 games on the 40gb model, other models only emulate them
    *Recently came out with HDMI, you mean about a year ago
    *The power brick is huge, but it sits behind the tv. nothing to worry about
    *The 360 does run loud, but the recent software update has helped, your now able to copy the disc to the internal hard drive.
    *You’ll need broadband for any sort of online playing, not just xbox live.

    Not that comparing the 2 systems has anything to do with the article. I think they should have kept it at the same price.

    Thinking about it, is it strictly legal to do what there doing?
