Forget the iPhone 3G, Blackberry Storm and G1, they are now old handsets, what consumers now want to know is, when will the Nokia 5800 be released. This phone is Nokia’s first widescreen handset as well as featuring a touchscreen.

Nokia have now got official with the launch of their 5800, or Tube as it has been nicknamed. The handset will soon be available in Russia, Spain, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Finland. S, as yet Nokia have not given a release date.

If you are bored with the iPhone 3G, Blackberry Storm and G1, then the Nokia 5800 shows how to put the fun back into the handset. The phone has a 3.2-inch, 16:9 resistive touchscreen, a 3.2 megapixel camera and 8GB of storage.

This isn’t a product review, it’s a press release, and not a very good one.
It tells us next to nothing about the product, and positions it for people who are bored with the iPhone and Storm. It’s fairly unlikely that this is going to be a large number of people. Both kinds of users are locked into 18 month contracts, and are going to be reluctant to pay huge penalties because they are bored.
Surely, really, Nokia is trying to shore up its market position with existing Nokia customers, especially those considering moving to the iPhone or the Storm.
