No Final Fantasy XIII betrayal says Square-Enix

No Final Fantasy XIII betrayal says Square-Enix

By: Alan Ng | November 28, 2008 | 13 Comments

If there is a bunch of you out there who are still disappointed with the fact that Final Fantasy XIII will be on the Xbox 360, then you might want to hear Square Enix’ Corporate Director Shinji Hashimotos recent comments.

When speaking to Kikizo, he explained that fans shouldn’t be disappointed with the recent events of the game and pointed out that the PS3 version won’t be delayed or cut down to size as a result of the multiplatform announcement.

He went on to explain, “I’d rather they not think of [Final Fantasy XIII on Xbox 360] as a ‘betrayal’ or disappointment. It’s not like we’re cancelling or delaying the PS3 version at all! It’s more of an added bonus for 360 fans. We won’t be putting them at a disadvantage in any way.”

He also pointed the fact out that the PS3 version of the game will be developed first, maximizing the consoles capabilities. Only after that is completed will they then begin work on a Xbox 360 port, optimizing it for Microsoft’s hardware.

All in all then, quite good news for you PS3 gamers out there who were slightly worried about the development of the game. Let us know your comments on this story below.

square-enix is just going multi-platform because its seeing the xbox360 making money…. just reading what Shinji Hashimotos said about the word betrayel and dissapointment makes me more mad because its a bunch of BS…… >= /

Well of course they’re going to deny any quality loss for the PS3 – that would hurt sales! And here in the West we’re going to have to wait for the 360 version while PS3 bersion is just sat there. Nothings change – Square Enix are dumb and FF will not be the same since FF X-2. I’m losing hope for the series and the company

    Squaresoft forever

I started losing hope for the series at VII. With the exception of FF IX, I haven’t played a really great Final Fantasy after VI.
Since the PS3 version of FF XIII will be as it should, does that mean that the 360 port will be inferior?

Square really stupid and being greedy but they didn’t know that they go the wrong path. Look what happen to their last RPG on 360 first they didn’t sale shit. Infinite Undiscoveries sold only 300k and Last Remnant sold only 80k so far. 360 is not RPG fan, only PS is the real RPG’s fanboys here Square. What Square comments is bunch of BS because they know PS fanboys are really mad and they will not buy their games because the way they treat PS fanboys like and idiot.

    Well imagine that!

And there I was thinking they were in it purely for the love of making games and were planning to give it away to us gamers for free. ;)

Aaron, here in the West (US & Europe) we have ALWAYS waited for many months after the release of FF in Japan, sometimes for several months!

Much of that is to do with language suuport, hence after the Japanese version is finished, a lot of work is needed for the voice acting for the English, Spanish, French etc versions. So the idea that the PS3 version for the West will be ready when it’s released in Japan but waiting for the 360 version is completely false.

Because the game engine is complete on PS3 and 360, porting the game to 360 should be relatively easy (even with multi-disc requirements), and this will happen at the same time as all the voice acting work.

So to answer your question Seige, the 360 will not necessarily be inferior, it will suffer in the same way as other ports, i.e. on par with the lead format or only slightly worse.

I have a ps3 and i don’t care it’s coming out on the 360 as for having to wait agian i’m not fussed as long as FFXIII is good.

On a side note i’m pretty sure 360 getting 13 was part of a deal with mircosoft allowing SE to bypass some live stuff for FFXI and putting some exculisive games on there and besides when ya have 60 million customers out it’s common sense to try and sell to all of them rather than just half of them.

Those who are disappointed with final fantasy 13 going multiplatform are all mostly ps3 fan boys. If you really loved the final fantasy series and is a true final fantasy fan, you should be happy how more people get to experience such amazing game and you could share such joy with more range of audience. If all you think is betrayal then you are pretty much a ps3 fan and not a true fan of final fantasy.

Who cares what system it’s on. The point is it’s going to suck just like every other $E game before SquareSoft. Once $quare realizes to quit butchering the series to appeal to westerners and romancers then we can discuss.

I agree with some. It does not matter the porting, its all about content. I really hope the rumors are not true about being very linear. I hope I get to explore some towns and talk to people and stuff. FF VII was by far the biggest and as such, the best, mainly for its content. And then it got increasing worse, capping off at X-2. Then XI came, and some people just dont like online neverending games. XII was decent in a lot of aspects; it actually brought “some” content back. But I’ve heard XIII is worse than X-2, which I agree, X-2 was an ABSOLUTE fluke, being the “Powerpuff Girls Reunited” and all. I think X would’ve been decent, had they not had unlimited auto-life at the end boss… WTF was that all about anyway??? But yea, I agree with most… Final Fantasy was named as such because it was a final project before the company considered business defeat. But nowadays anymore, they are f-cking up a good thing they started. and i guess thats their right. i just hope the rumors arent true………..

You’re all missing the point. The reason that so many people are upset with SE’s decision to release the game on xbox 360 is that, for the most part, people bought THE most expensive next generation console just for the opportunity to play FF XIII. And come to find out, it wasn’t even necessary. This is where the word “betrayal” starts to find its way into the conversation. Some fans are starting to feel that they may have coughed up hundreds of dollars more for nothing.

we still mgs4…best game so far

Was Square Enix even obligated or obliged in any way to make FF an PS3 exclusive? It was exclusive to Nintendo's consoles back then, but they started porting it to the PS since FF6 and made Ninty lose its exclusivity, so I don't really think why SE would prefer staying loyal to the PlayStation when they could make more money with a "betrayal". Cmon they already betrayed Nintendo last time in one way or another.
