Sony PS3 Trophies in their current iteration, do not work

What do you make of the PS3 Trophy system at the moment in its current state? While some people think it’s a step in the right direction for the console, website PS3 Attitude thinks, ‘Trophies, in their current iteration, do not work’.

Their main issue is that at the moment there isn’t the right balance between games which support Trophies, and other titles that do not. I can sort of agree with his viewpoint there as it is slightly confusing while they would make trophy patches for lesser known games, rather than add trophies into huge titles such as COD4 or Rock Band.

While some people are frustrated with the current Trophy situation, gamers won’t have to wait long following Sony’s announcement that they will be making Trophy support mandatory for all developers starting Jan 09, so things are looking up.

Do you have any views on the PS3 Trophy system? Let us know what you think.

I think it’s a well thought out system, I like the idea of staged trophies and a special trophy for complete game domination! It’s better than an meaningless score that for all you know is just a collection of all the easiest achievements in lot’s or rented games (or a cheat/hack).

I have over 250 trophies, but only 10 Golds and 2 Platinums. It just gives you that extra sense of satisfaction when you’ve worked hard to get a Gold, whereas with Achievements that extra difficulty is buried with all the other points. I also like the idea of Platinums for beating the game completely, it gives you extra incentive to go back for those last few trophies and is a great thing to work towards for your favourite games. I also like how you can’t cheat to get the trophies (at least not heard any examples of doing that yet).

It’s unreasonable to say trophies should be in all games, Achievements weren’t in all Xbox games when the system first launched if I remember. What would he have preferred? For devs to delay games to add trophies or cancel the PS3 versions altogether? And to expect all previously released games to be patched is just stupid talk, devs cannot be forced to go back to completed games and incur an unrecoverable expense to add a feature that wasn’t available when they first made the game!

From next year trophies will be compulsory, which is about the right time scale as devs have had enough warning. All in all a pointless article…

trophies have just been rumored to be the currency in HOME, sounds good if u ask me, id rather trade with throphies than part with cash for the HOME add ons. agree with previous posts!

i just wish there was an option to turn off trophy notification in the system settings. i’m not that bothered about getting them personally, playing and enjoying the game itself is reward enough for me. i don’t need a pat and the head and be told i’m doing it right.

what next, they going to start paying us to play games a-la gamer points?

I hate the trophy notification. I have behaviour problems and they make me jump when they come up. I’ve been searching around the internet for days trying to find out if you can turn them off, or at least mute them. The trophies were actually one of the reasons I quit playing PS3.
