YouTube have announced that they are to increase the viewing size of their videos; they will now be shown in widescreen, 16:9. They want viewers to look at the online videos like they do with movies, and widescreen should be able to do that.
The width that we view videos will now be extended to 960 pixels, YouTube say that this will offer videos better quality and users will be able to view them better on their widescreen TV’s or monitors. The new widescreen format will offer users a more powerful and cleaner experience.
YouTube users have been increasingly uploading their video footage in the 16:9 aspect ratio, so YouTube needed to offer this service. Users need not worry about their videos in the 4:3 aspect ratio looking stretched, as they will be centered and have vertical black bars above and below the video.
