No Installation For Killzone 2 on Sony PS3

No Installation For Killzone 2 on Sony PS3

By: Alan Ng | November 25, 2008 | 9 Comments

Seb Downie, QA Manager for Guerrilla Games has informed members of the official Playstation boards that there will no required installation of any sort for Killzone 2 on the Playstation 3.

As we all know by now, Killzone will be released next year exclusively on the PS3 console. While everyone patiently waits for its arrival, users on the forums have been squeezing out little info from one of the dev team from Guerrilla Games.

When asked on the forums, Downie replied that ‘ We are not planning to do any install. Optional or otherwise.’’ This will be music to fans ears as previous games on the PS3 had required mandatory installs on the HDD taking up previous space.

Killzone 2 just keeps settings the standards it seems. What are your thoughts guys?

Let hope this is the beginning of the end for in stall’s!!!!, If Guerrilla Games can do it
& considering how stunning KZ2 looks no more excuses for anyone!!

  • VinTheDean

Yup. This is proof that it’s possible to have great looking game with NO mandatory or optional installation.

    Go Guerilla Game!!!!!!!!!!!

They are looking better and better as a development powerhouse. Up there with Insomniacs. Let’s just hope that the gameplay and game is just as great as the

I agree VinTheDean. But I like how they aren’t advertising as much as halo 3 was advertised by Microsoft. It received so much hype, but fell short of expectations by many fans of the series. I think KZ2 is going with an “under-the-radar” approach to just creep up on everyone and give everyone a huge surprise. Could KZ2 be the sleeper hit of ’09? With the 360 not receiving any huge software until the end of next year, this could be the year for the Playstation!

Uncharted did a great job with having no installs, and barely any load times. you could play that game from start to finish without seeing a load screen.(except the first one.)

    Very true PS3_Wizard.

Xbox does not have any real BIG exclusives coming out at the beginning.

Oh, wait a minute. That is why they paying, sorry, I mean getting a these exclusive DLC for these multiplatform games.

They don’t have anything with real substance until late in the year of 2009.

Yup. KZ2. Definitely the hit of 09 of PS3. The PS3 should take off like crazy.

Wow fanboyz alert!!!! whats this got to do with the 360?, why cant gamers just enjoy what they’ve got .. why does it always have to be, “Yer this gonna be an awesome game……much better than anything the 360 has”, you sound like a whining little f**king kid, grow up, shut up & f**k off……

Agreed (although I wouldn’t have used your ‘colourful’ language myself :) ).

Anyway, it’s great to see KZ2 doesn’t require a mandatory HDD install, but let’s not get too carried away and start pointing the finger at other devs. :) Each game is different, and therefore some games will benefit more than others from HDD installs. Also, KZ2 has been in development for 4 years now, therefore I’m sure all that time and the resources available has helped to avoid any issues which may have meant a HDD install was necessary.

I look forward to it’s release next year.

I agree KZ2 LOOKS great and who knows, it might even play well too but the problem is that it’s not going to change the standard of games on PS3 and heres why.

KZ2 was born of a lie, the fake gameplay footage shown at E3 2005 proved to be too big a lie for Sony to get away with and so they decided they needed to replicate that footage at any cost, the developement time and cost of KZ2 has been so great that the game will never make a profit on one console, no matter how many copies they sell.

While Sony’s profits should be of no concern to those who buy the game my point is merely that you enjoy it, just don’t expect the stanard to be replicated on a regular basis by other developers as not all developers are heavily subsidized by Sony to make a non-profit game to cover up a lie.

In any case games don’t have to have the best gaphics ever to be good games and games with the best graphics aren’t always the best games so enjoy it if it turns out to be a great game, just don’t expect it to be the new standard just yet, developers don’t work for charity alone.

    @hollywooda

The reason people are saying that K2 is better than any 360 game out there is because for the whole two years of the PS3, that is all we here from MOST Xbot Fanboys.

We have another great game that can be show cased. It’s our time to shine so many will rub it in.

I am pretty level headed when it comes to comparing the 360 and the PS3. I know that 360 has a lot of great games and it has a lot of cool features.

What iritates me is when people say stupid unfounded things like the PS3 does not have any games. And when they say that PSN or Games are “inferior” to Xbox Live and their games. Just like the whole RROD towned about a year. We should not bring up RROD but some people still do.

The statement about the PS3 not having enough games died out about a year ago. Most of the games are multiplatform and they come out on the PS3. The xbox has great exclusives and so does the PS3.

Xbox Live has been around for 6 years and PSN 2. I think it’s amazing that PSN has about 80 to 90 percent of the features that Live has in such a short time. Also, it’s nice that both are different. If they were both the same, then there would be no competition.
