Lost Contacts During iPhone 2.2 Update: How to restore

It seems that the number of problems that iPhone users are experiencing with the new 2.2 firmware update is increasing. A number of users decided to synchronize their iPhone with an empty Outlook Express address book; they then realized that all their iPhone contacts had disappeared.

Thankfully the there is a way to get all of your contacts back. Firstly open iTunes then click edit, then preferences, devices and you will then see that you have a back up from an earlier date before your Outlook Express error, select it and close the window.

Then right click on devices, which is your iPhone on the left and then select restore from back up, once prompted select the backup date that you have chosen. That should now restore all your contacts to before your error.

Since the release of iPhone update 2.2 there have been a number of reported issues, have you had any problems when updating your iPhone to the latest firmware?

When I performed Itunes Manual Sync with my Iphone 3G, version 3.0 software, NO CONTACTS are Visible on my Iphone except:

    1. Favorites (under phone)
    2. If I search any name in my previously visible contact list using the Universal Search feature for phone, notes, calendar (Page 1 of Apps), the search will find the contact.

Thus the contacts are on the iPhone and also on MobileMe (Me.com) but not visible on my iPhone.

I tried Resetting my iPhone to Original settings and then Run Restore to my previous backup. No luck.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
