Hating PS3′s LittleBigPlanet (LBP)

Hating PS3′s LittleBigPlanet (LBP)

By: Peter Chubb | November 24, 2008 | 43 Comments

The number of people hating the new Sony PS3 game LittleBigPlanet has been growing in numbers, I am one of them and so is the PS3 Blog. The game was ok at first, but the more that people play it, the more annoying it gets.

Gary from PS3 blog decided not to carry on playing LBP as he thought he would save himself for the full game. He had hoped that the full version of the game would be much better, but it seems that the full version has left him more than disappointed.

He believes that as a platform game, LittleBigPlanet is flawed. The game is meant to be fun to play, but the controls often get stuck, which infuriates gamers. Gary from PS3 Blog hated LittleBigPlanet that much that he has now traded the game for Fallout 3 instead.

I had a chance to play my cousin’s game and I had fun for about the first 10 minutes, after that I was bored. One point of the game I got stuck and could not get out, it took at least 10 minutes to get out of it

Boohoo… Get over it and enjoy an even more glitchy game.

Wow…cry me a river, build a bridge and get over it. LoL. I play LBP with my brother and friends all the time (I’m 29, and he’s 32). We have no such problems with controls. It’s just the feeling of the game, imo. No offense, but if you can’t handle the controls of a platformer, then you may want to retreat to something more your intellectual level…like Solitaire, or Go Fish.

My kids cant plaY IT AT ALL.

Every time they jump it over shoots and the sack boy walks another few inches and dies..

As a game for kids it funny that my kids can even come close to playing it, they are 5 and 6 years old.

PS3 will be finished in 2009. Few good titles, bad ports, no line up for next year, cost too much money, low resolution, who ever is in charge of SONY PS3 has no idea what they are doing..

The most unfortunate thing about blogs like these, is that some people will believe this story and miss out on a great game. The internet allows anyone to put anything they want to print these days whether it may be false or not. Although the story is based on opinion, someone searching for game reviews may stumble accross it, and actually believe that the game is flawed. Well, it isn’t and there are hours of great fun to be had in LBP. Just check the youtube videos if you don’t bleieve me. I’m not trying to say that the game is 100% quirk free either, but it is far from “flawed”.

  • Michael

Its funny how PS3 fanboys get mad when you dont say every game is a perfect 10, go buy 3 copies, best game ever made…They are so ignorant..

  • carla

My kids cant play it either.

I had some fun with it for a while but it got way to annoying. Im surprised at the grown men on here defending this game but fanboys say every game is the best game ever made.

Hey people this is supposed to be for kids not 30 year old men…funny!

I think u’ll find its desperation that leads Sony Fan boys to get angry at anyone who dares to have a negative opinion about LBP or the PS3 in general. I own a PS3 & 360 & i’m not particular loyal either way, and believe it or not they probably care very little to what we think anyway, I just go where the good gaming is. And right now that’s the 360. But just having such a blinkered view of the current state the PS3 is in & refusing to accept that the 360 has the better game now, isn’t going to make it any better all your doing is denying yourself some of the best gaming this Gen has seen. LBP is a good little game, very clever, but Sony didn’t do the game & themselves any favours when the announced it as the saviour of the PS3!!… it would take more than a sack boy right now to fix things, Killzone 2, IMO is the only game on the horizon I’m even slightly interested in & that’s beginning to wear thin. The PS3 is a great Media hub, but its not a games console at the moment…..maybe Blu-ray wasn’t such a bad idea after all.

  • http://PSLevel.com Theossie

    You all are tripping..

I’m 29 and I think this game is great and is not just for kids. I’m a man as well, and what’s funny about that. I think it was made to appeal to all ages and genders.

Should I only be playing shooters and sports games or something.

LBP reminds be of my days playing the Sonic and Mario games. Which I still like to play even as a 29 year old man. LOL

Shoo.. I will still probably be playing LBP after I make 30. What’s funny about that.

Don’t hate because I’m having fun with a game and you aren’t.

Find a game you like and don’t knock others for liking something you don’t.

  • PS3Owner

LBP is a great game and lot’s of fun despite some minor control niggles, the create mode and user-made levels also provide hours of entertainment that for once doesn’t involve fighting back aliens with machine guns or recreating World War II. I suspect your opinion is in the minority of people (apart from all the sad 360 fanboys that pretend to have a PS3 and hate LBP, like those scoring it down on Metacritic).

As for the comment about the PS3 failing in 2009 that is uninformed fanboyism at it’s worst! First off it’s selling faster than the 360 did at the same point in it’s lifecycle, and it’s due for a price cut in March according to reports which will boost sales further. And what’s this about no great games? You must have a funny definition of a great game because off the top of my head I can list:

    Metal Gear Solid 4
    Motorstorm 2
    Resistance 2
    KillZone 2
    LittleBIGPlanet (this minority posting aside)
    God of War III
    Uncharted 2
    Heavy Rain
    Team ICO Project
    Quantum Theory
    Home
    etc
    etc

And those are just the exclusives, let’s not forget all the big 3rd party multiplatforms that Microsoft can no longer afford to buy off due to the size of the PS3′s GLOBAL user base like Resident Evil 5, Bioshock 2 and the rest.

What’s coming to the 360 how they’ve resorted to giving them away with 10 tokens from Breakfast Cerial Boxes? Gears of War 3, GTAIV $20 DLC? It amazes me people still think the 360 is the home of the big exclusives…

Do yourself a favour and stop believing the fanboys and the Microsoft PR machine.

As for dodgy ports they’re coming to an end thanks to more focus being given to the PS3, or using the PS3 as the primary dev platform. Which if you know any industry insiders is something they will tell you will only get more prevalent in 2009.

In general the resolution trick was used in a minimum number of ports where the 360 was used as the primary development platform, it’s just the 360 fanboy army polluted the web with stories about it. Did you know the same technique is used in Halo 3 which doesn’t run at HD resolution either? It’s funny I don’t remember such a song and dance about that…

Maybe you should spend some time getting your facts straight next time your 360 is away for repair with a RROD error…

  • hollywooda

At PS3owner:- Acting like a brat & stamping ur feet because not everyone in the playground agrees with you just makes you look even more desperate….. As does listing games!. You talk about 360 fanboys, then in the next breath have a huge Sony fanboy rant haha. Its a console not a f**king life support machine, just chill, your obviously happy with your PS3 & that’s cool, but not everyone agrees OK.

  • The Guy

Metal Gear Solid 4 – Old and tired of it already. Too much of a movie

Motorstorm 2 – mediocre compared to the first

Resistance 2 – 340,000 copies sold compared to Gears 2′s 2 million in one week. Also not as good as the first.

KillZone 2 – Just a pretty game with no substance like the first one.

LittleBIGPlanet (this minority posting aside) – Got old after a week.

God of War III – common…this is a 2010 game at the earliest.

Uncharted 2 – no date announced but 1st was awesome.

Heavy Rain – dont know about it.

Team ICO Project – who and huh ?

    Quantum Theory – lame

Home – lame, i dont want to sit on my couch to watch myself sit on a virtual couch. No body has found a WOW factor about HOME since it has been shown for the last 2 years.

  • loopid

Wow. I guess IGN, Metacritic, Game Pro, G4TV, Game Informer and pretty much every other gaming site along with every gaming journalist were wrong about this title. Man, next time i’m going to just come over to this site. Its so informative. and this Gary sounds amazing. I’m curious… can you provide me with stats on the “growing in numbers” part. This site is so good it must get exclusive stats that no other site gets.

Anyway, i’m really enjoying the game and the online community is amazing. People are getting very creative with the levels. I had some people over last night that aren’t into gaming. I put on LBP and they didn’t leave till 3am. I mostly play shooters but really enjoy this game. I stopped playing LBP after Resistance 2 came out. Just this week I started playing LBP again and its a whole new game. The online levels from users are so fun and so many. I designed a level too which is crazy fun. Most of my friends who are hard core gamers love this game. The further you get into the story line the harder the levels which appeals to them. Also, collecting all the prizes is difficult.

So… do proper research and don’t listen to “Gary.” GIve the game a proper chance.

  • loopid

i agree with KC also. blogs like this are dangerous. some one wrote an interesting article that due to the internet stupidity can no longer be contained. it is spreading at a very rapid rate.

  • Bish

Maybe your children should just stick to games like Crash or something then, cause these boards are no harder than Super Mario Brothers and Ice boards. Remember when you were a kid, playing those games, and you jumped landed on ice, and slid and extra 3 feet? All I’m saying is with some practice they’ll get better. Unless of course it’s you who has the problem listening to their frustration? There are some minor control issues, but nothing terrible.

  • VinTheDean

If someone posts the same thing about GOW2 then Xbots would come out and defend it.

Why bash Sony Fans and you would do the same for your game.

LBP is not for everyone. I have it and I have not played it in like three weeks. That’s because I am playing R2 now.

I agree the controls are not the best but they work. Once you get to it. The game is not really for 5 or 6 year olds. Maybe it’s more like 8 or 9 when their dexterity is bettery. Get a racing or Disney game for 5 and 6 year olds.

Actually, one reason I have not gone back to it is becuase it is quite a challange to finish some levels. I am tired of dying at the same part. But, I actually glad that it is challenging for me. If it was not then everyone would be complaining that it wa too easy.

Again, Xbots don’t hate because you would do the same for one your precious games/console.

I might throw it in this Thursday when people come over for Turkey Day.

  • chris

I love the game and if a 10 is perfect then i would give LBP a 9.5
just yesterday i was playing for like 7 hours with my 3 cousins(ages 8,9 and 11) and only brother age 12 (they took turns since i had 2 controls and would not give mine up until they collected more bubbles then me, which never happened lol)
My friends also found LBP to be very fun
It still is not a 10 because the community levels are not there yet(though there are a lot of good ones, i enjoyed several japanese made levels)
I just try not to let sackboy change axis automatically.
The controls can be frustrating 0-5% of the time but thats all

  • Furmigaotora

Can’t reply now, I’m playing LBP.
    cheers.

  • ms

This site needs to get shut down there playing the game of selling there pointless reviews to the highest bidder. The whole pay me attitude or we will give your game some bad press has got to end.

  • Nynja

@Michael, who wrote: “Its funny how PS3 fanboys get mad when you dont say every game is a perfect 10, go buy 3 copies, best game ever made…They are so ignorant..”

    Who’s ignorant? lol

  • SPM

this blog sucks. lbp is fun

  • Mike

Fanboy nonsense. LBP is awesome…get over it xbots

  • Spencer

The scores and reviews speak for themselves, and there all 9′s and 10′s!!! I love this game and if you cant play it I feel sorry for you and that short bus you ride.

  • Neil

Ok. You seem pretty pathetic the controls are fine…. and if u get stuck press “square” and go to “Try Again” you need to learn to play it first lol yer i’m bored of the story mode finished it completely but i’m having loads of fun making my own levels and having all my friends play them. Its nice when you get loads of “Hearts” from people. :) Im on LBP now and im having loads of fun helping this other guy complete the game…. P.S he is a noob

  • Michael

Produce the stats please, or links to the ‘growing numbers’. If these aren’t provided, can the article be ammended accordingly to show that this is the opinion of ‘Gary’ only.

    Thank you.

Also, strong multiplatform is the best thing to happen to next gen. Without a dominant market leader (like the PS2 last gen) both platforms will drive each other to heights that may have not been reached without the competition. The only winners are us. Long may these consoles continue to fight side by side, driving down price and producing great multiplatorm games. Only 1 hour to I finish work and can get back on COD5. woo hoo.

To the fanboys on both sides, life is good guys. Whether you’re playing GOW2 or Resistance2, who cares as long as these great games continue to get made. It now seems a lifetime ago that I had to put up with laggy PC Medal of Honor games (just 6 years ago)… life really is great for gamers at the moment. :-)

  • slaYer127

look, everyone has their own opinions but stop trying to bring down a game just because you don’t like it. this is an entirely new game that people obviously spent a lot of time making. just cause your too stupid to control a 2D platformer without freaking out on the controls, doesn’t mean everyone else is that dumb. yeah im a ps3 fanboy, but that don’t mean i hate the xbox. as for my opinion, i think this game is amazing and extremely fun. i went to my friends house one day and i found it was full of hardcore gears of war xbox fans. i had the only ps3 there. i popped LBP in, and no one could put it down. of course, when they first saw it, they said WTF is this sh** . but once we all started playing, we were all having a fun time. i know you cant judge a game by a review, but look at them all! every review i have seen has been between a 9 and 10. ( a hint at the dumb*** that got stuck for 10 minutes, push square and go to the TRY AGAIN icon and hold ‘x’ , you will pop and go back to a respawn point) :)

  • carla

Game review sites get paid to give high scores. Its called advertising dollars.!!

This game has its moments but its not fun for long..

hey ps3 fanboys…every game is a perfect 10, buy 3 copies, all of them are the best game ever made…

  • Ian

I have LBP and have had since it was RELEASED, and I enjoy it about as much as any consumer — played it for a little while, then get bored. I desperately want to make a level on there but the building mechanics are still pretty confusing to me.

Overall, I play it when my friend and I get together and we want to play and rate other peoples levels who’ve taken the time to build them. It’s a great gaming experience even if you’re not into the whole building levels thing. Go and play someone else’s. :) The best part IMO, is that you can find any levels suited to your needs by using the search function in the game.

Oh, and IF you get stuck? There’s a little button on the bottom-right cornenr of the poppit-menu that respawns you to the nearest ‘checkpoint’. au revoir et salut

  • loopid

why do people get called “fanboy” for liking a game? what does it have to do with what system its on? if gaming sites get paid high advertising dollars and suck up than why do games get bad reviews? remember alone in the dark? they advertised the crap out of that game. not fully convinced by your logic.

  • joey

this is the worst website ever, it actually makes me laugh. so sad that the internet let’s you write these terrible reviews. this article sounds like a 8 year old wrote it.

this game is awesome, first game that my wife actually enjoys playing with me. i’m usually playing COD5 or resistance 2 or Socom, but this is definitely a relaxing game that i enjoy.

i’m going to personally going to delete this website off the internet so no one has to read “articles” that microsoft paid some xbox kid to write.

  • moom

Oh Lordy, another fanboy bitchfest. A plague on ALL your houses.

  • moom

..actually, I take that back – at least in reference to the original article. I’m not a serious gamer, but I’m enjoying LBP immensely. Agree that Sackboy has a tendency to slide around a bit, but to me that’s just part of the game. And I really like the slightly surreal, occasionally slightly dark humour. Oh, and the soundtrack is contagious as measles.

Perhaps one reason that those who dislike it are so vitriolic are because they’re in such a minority?

All the best to Gary from PS3 in his search for his perfect game. Frankly, LBP is a breath of fresh air from the innumerable (and frankly dull) FPS and driving games that seem to crowd in on the platform.

  • FanboyWars

Wow the 360 fanboys are out in force with this one! I’m sure these blogs post trash like this just to get their hit rate up!

    @ The Guy,

That’s a pretty extensive list of exclusives for you to dis, a PS3 owner would look forward to at least one of them, and how come you’ve not heard of Heavy Rain when almost all genuine PS3 owners have? I can only conclude you’re a blinkered XBot that holds Gears 2 as the best game ever and turns a blind eye at everything else not on an Xbox!

Also you do know Resistance 2 isn’t out in Europe yet don’t you? Also MS have spent probably more than they get from those 2M units on advertising for it. Also assume that GOW2 would sell at least double due to the additional 360s sold in the States during it’s head start. Finally given the narrow demographic of most 360 owners that basically live for Halo sequels and Gears sequels (most of them only buying the console for that reason) it’s not surprising they all sell week 1, that is no indication of lifetime sales, just an indication that GOW2 has been just about the only exclusive 360 owners have had to look forward to this year, whereas PS3 owners are spoiled for choice! There are several more statistical arguements I could make about those sales, but I can’t be bothered, needless to say though I bet you’d have been saying it was great if it was a 360 exclusive…

As for Quantum Theory how can you call it lame when there has only been one launch trailer shown? It could be the best game in gaming history, but because it’s not on your 360 you’re claiming the game is lame? Funny a lot of Xbots used to say the same thing about FFXIII until MS bought it to their console (pun intended) now suddenly it’s a brilliant game! Shame FF vs XIII is still PS3 exclusive, but let me guess you think it’s lame right? Quantum Theory looks like a cross between Gears of War and Devil May Cry, which in my book makes it an interesting “one to watch”.

So KillZone 2 has no substance does it not? Sorry I didn’t realise you were a developer, given that only the multiplayer elements have been made public I’m not quite sure what you mean by substance? And with it’s class system even the multiplayer has some substance to it, and graphically it’s on a par with that “impossible” CG trailer! Again you’re probably comparing it to those brilliantly intricate story driven games like Halo 3 and Gears of War 2 [/sarcasm].

God of War III if you have read recent blog posts is said to be stunning and according to David Jaffe way ahead graphically than his current game of the year Gears of War 2 (I’m sure the Xbots will love that comment!). Also it’s out Autumn 2009 along with Unchartered 2…

Team Ico are the people behind Shadow of Colossus and again real PS3 owners are very excited to see what they do next.

And what about all the MMORPG’s coming to PS3, are they lame too?

    And Infamous, is that lame?

Or M.A.G, how come PS3 owners can have 256 player multiplayer for free when 360 owners can’t even though they pay a subscription to play games online?

Call me a PS3 fanboy if you want, but the way I see it if paying to play online means having to put up with idiots like you lot, I’m glad I got a PS3 when my 2nd 360 died!

Sorry 360 fanboys the PS3 isn’t failing, as much as you would like to believe it is, and it has plenty of brilliant games and exclusives coming that you won’t get access to (not even via a PC), you can tell yourself otherwise all you like but that doesn’t change the reality of the situation…

  • http://tenkio.com rich

The only point I’d agree with is that Kids can’t play LBP. As an adult I have no problem, I love the game’s charm.

If they were going to make a cutesy platformer they could have sorted it so kids as well as adults could enjoy it.

  • Nitroki11er

I have to say playing little big planet reminds me of the mario and sonic days, alright u cant be as original and inniovative as these games were in there day but little big planet is the best platformer ive played in years. i only get this problem with the controles bout 5% of the time but nothing to big enough to moan and bitch about on the web.

No game is flawless but you cant say this game is as bad as you make it out to be.

And no im not a fan boy i own all three consoles and jus love to play any game on each one of these consoles.

so in my OPINION dont be pursuaded by the writers OPINION and just buy/rent or just play it once because this is a fun and enjoyable game.

  • AMB

LOL @ the big debate going on here :p
Well everyone has their own point of why they do/don’t like it but to be honest I like the game, but I have to agree that the game is too hard for kids.
yes there are flaws in the game, but what game doesn’t have its flaws? The whole point to this game is that you can create ANYTHING, and I think thats what everyone is missing.
Yes it is a platformer, but the main fun you really get from it is creating your own lvls, publishing it and watching people enjoy that lvl.

And this isn’t a PS3 Vs Xbox 360 argument so stop bloody moaning about that!!!

  • http://www.mediamolecule.co.uk mobiletone

LBP is broken on soo many levels, the fact the online side of things is populated by retarded levels now doesn’t help either. you should all be ashamed of yourselves.

i was in the beta for ages, and that worked a treat, the uploaded levels we made were fun, the servers worked, no lag, score and other bits ran fine. then, then it got general release and it all went to sh1t.

glad to see it’s dropped from the top 20 games charts at last. system seller? pffffffffft!!

i traded my copy for Valkyria Chronicles.

  • MoRic

My 3.5yr old and I are able to play together… he can complete the first 2 levels of the Gardens, and we have found and hearted many on-line levels that he is capable of completing. The trick is to search for the term “kids”. It will bring up tons of levels that people (like me) have created and posted for their kids. Don’t forget about R1 to go to the next layer of levels.

This game is great, and really teaches problem/puzzle solving skills.

Just a tip, when you’re searching through the “kids” created levels, be aware that some people may put “not for kids” in their description – be ready to exit out quickly. That said, my wife and I feel comfortable making supper while our son plays through his Hearted levels (all approved by us).

If you’re interested, our created level is called “Joe’s Level”. 8×8 crawler vehicles and a little blue train.

  • http://www.mediamolecule.co.uk mobiletone

@ MoRic – LBP has a PEGI rating of 7+ so you shouldn’t be letting your 3 1/2yrs old play it. oh and thanks for helping to ruin the online experience by uploading shite kids levels…

  • Mike

@mobiletone: here’s a condom, use it. We don’t want many more of you around

  • MoRic

@Mike – Thanks, my response would not have been quite as succinct as yours.

  • IGNtertainment

Wow! I love reading these kinds of blog’s. I could sit here and read all the PS3 ‘fanboy’ comments all day. Seriously though you PS3 owners need to get over it.

If someone gives a bad review on a game it does not mean its a bad game. It is just the opinion of the reviewer(s). This is why we have so many different websites that offer different reviews. Everyone here should know this. Personally I thought Chris’ IGN review of LBP was very generous, I would have given it a 7.5 at the most, but that is MY opinion.

I know the PS3 is going through some tough times right now and who knows if Sony will ever recover from it. Just look on the bright side, there is some big titles coming to 360 ‘and’ PS3. Hopefully they will turn out to be very good.

  • Rigby

To be honest, this post is flawed.

If you get stuck in LBP, you just press square and then hold X on the option to make Sackboy pop (designed for sucky online levels which are inevitable). There’s actually a tutorial about this in the first 10 minutes of the game too, so you must be pretty special…

I’ve lost a lot more than 10 minutes of my life due to Fallout 3 crashing whenever I play it for more than a couple of hours straight.

And on a side note about crap user creations; the best/most played/most hearted levels are always on the front page, which are often as good as (or even better than) the Story levels. You can find glitchy, unfinished steaming turds if you sort levels by the tags ‘Rubbish’, ‘Lousy’ or ‘Boring’. Try searching for ‘Brilliant’, ‘Beautiful’ or ‘Fun’.
