Verizon Wireless Employees View Barack Obama Cell Phone Account

Verizon Wireless Employees View Barack Obama Cell Phone Account

By: Daniel Chubb | November 21, 2008 | 6 Comments

President-elect Barack Obama’s privacy is no longer private according to new reports just in, it seems that Verizon Wireless employees have gained unauthorized access into Obama’s cell phone account.

Verizon Wireless employees have viewed his personal cell phone account that is held by the president which is now inactive; an aide of Obama said that all his voice-mail messages and even his emails were not breached in this incident. He said “We were notified yesterday that employees had accessed the records of an old cell phone no longer in use,” the Obama aide said.”No voice or e-mails were listened to or read.”

The device was not a BlackBerry or device designed for e-mail or other data services, but was a simple voice phone. Verizon Wireless President and Chief Executive Lowell McAdam in a statement did apologize to the president and said that all employees who had the access to his account being it authorized or not were put on leave with pay immediately.

Verizon has said that they will impose disciplinary action where needed, personally this should have never happened so what are your views on the above matter?

How can the company let this happen in there on company. The company put them on leave with pay, the company will lose a lot of people from this. I do not think it was accident it was not just one employee it was three or more. An they call it an accident that bull……………. You know, that I have an account with this company I will be changing it. Even though they are a good company, but to go in someone else phone without them know it, not just one time but it happen once before you all remeber it. The phone is great but I was thinking about an blackberry touch tone phone but now it won’t happen I would go to some other company with my money or tell other people to go to some other company.

It was a bunch of foolish people who worked at verizion and wanted to see if anything came up! Just that simple! As you have read there was no other information that came up so stop making the issue bigger than it needs to be!

Did Verizon train their employees on security matters to avoid this and similar issues with others? Why doesn’t Verizon investigate to find out whether this has happened before with the regular Joe? What strategies does Verizon have in place to protect us all and not just Obama? I believe that Verizon’s firing of those employees is to cover their CEO’s “b” because it is my understanding that this is not the first time that people’s accounts have been viewed out of curiosity AND malice! It looks like this issue was a way of Verizon to be in good graces with the president and not to protect him. Maybe they anticipate needing a bailout like the auto industry CEOs.

I personally know the two employees who did it, and I happen to work for a cell phone department in a retail store. Every single person who works for a cell phone provider, whether it’s Verizon, Sprint, ATT, or anyone else, can look up just about anyone’s profile. Changing your service provider over this matter doesn’t help your personal security one bit. Any employee caught looking at the account of someone who did not permit them to is immediately terminated. Verizon isn’t even close to needing a bailout. I sell more Verizon phones than those of any other network. By the way… Verizon employees have access to nothing more than your rate plans and address. They don’t have access to your voicemails or text messages or anything of that sort. Chill and stop freaking out.

I am ashamed and sorry that this happened to President Elect Obama, but hopefully this will bring some other serious issues with Verizon Wireless to light.
Verizon Wireless has major problems with security and honesty. They do not protect the employees and/or the customers and they openly cover-up misconduct on a regular basis. Whenever an employee reports any type of violation be it, methods and procedures, code of conduct, harassment or anything it is pushed under the rug or the person reporting it is singled out. The upper management is more concerned with their pay checks and their elite club that they don’t think about the working man and woman that are the real source or their fame and fortune.
There are employees that have been sexually harassed, verbally abused, physically assaulted, and even direct open discrimination of all kinds. There are so many employees that have had real mental break downs, had to be put on medication and even hospitalized because of the abuse they have endured at Verizon Wireless. And lastly they are rewarded for there commitment and endurance by being fired.
You are probably saying how can I speak on this, well you guessed it I am a former Verizon Wireless employee that has endured all of the above. I am just praying that this awful infraction against President Elect Obama causes a true internal and even a federal investigation.

    Sincerely,
Homeless, Unemployed Mother of One, and Former Employee
