MkVI VW Rabbit and GTI: U.S. in September
By: Daniel Chubb | November 21, 2008 | 1 CommentIf you are a Volkswagen customer in the United States you are well aware that you have been waiting patiently for the all new sixth-generation Rabbit and of course its GTI performance variant, we can now tell you a little more about the long waiting road becoming a little shorter.
Auto makers in Germany has recently announced that its brand new model will hit the U.S. market sometime September 2009 which is great news, however all European customers have already taken delivery of their brand new VW Golf’s last month, the GTI is soon to follow next summer.
The American versions will become available with the likes of a 2.5-liter inline-five and a brand new 2-liter turbo-diesel in the TDI version and the GTI’s 2-liter TSI. There will also be a new 1.8-liter TFSI which will apparently replace the base 2.5-liter unit, and with TwinDrive hybrid and LPG and 4Motion all-wheel-drive versions to follow. There may possibly be a brand new all-electric version as well as a replacement for the current top-of-the-line R32 performance model.
Other features of the North American models will include 19-inch wheels as standard, adaptive chassis control and adaptive cruise control. Take a look at the 2009 Volkswagen GTI LIVE photo gallery here and the Volkswagen Golf VI photo gallery here.
