Apple have now released iTunes 8.0.2 Update, this latest update was hoped to make a number of improvements but already people have been reporting problems. Apple says that the new update fixes a couple of issues that the digital media software had as well as improving accessibility for those with impaired vision.
iTunes 8.0.2 Update fixes a quality issue that the software had when creating MP3s on certain computers, the update also addresses the connectivity issue to the iTunes Store with certain Internet proxies on Mac OS X.
Apple also says that iTunes 8.0.2 will improve accessibility with VoiceOver, this helps to aid those who are visually impaired, this is done by reading out loud the contents of the files. The update is 60.3MB and is available from Apple’s iTunes site.
As we mentioned above there have been a number of problems reported already with the update. One of the problems was on someone’s MacMini; after he installed the update and then restarted all he has now is a blue screen. Read More
Another user installed iTunes 8.0.2 on to his Mac Mini, he then tried to open iTunes, all he got was a dialog box which said “The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (13008)” The user tried to reinstall iTunes, but he still gets the same error. Read More

Ok guys if you have the “quicktime needs to be installed” error, on itunes 8.0.2
1. uninstall quicktime.
2. install quickime and itunes separately.
Have done that multiple times and iTunes still won’t completely download. Any other suggestions? Have even spent hours on the phone with Apple and they say its a problem with my spyware or my computer.
I can’t believe this! I got a 120GB Ipod Classic for an early christmas present,
and it is only compatible with Itunes 8
I attempted downloading it with the Apple Software Update, but that came up with “an invalid signature.” I tried to download it from the website, but that did not work either. I have no idea what to do!
When is this problem going to be fixed and how are we going to be advised. Next time wont bother with any upgrades. I am having the same problem as everybody else quicktime wont load even after trying manny times NOT HAPPY
Installed the update on a 2 month old 120GB. Now iTunes tells me that they can’t synch 80-odd files, and it won’t download anything to the iPod. This is my first Apple product and the lack of comprehensive product usage memoranda and product support communications facilities is infuriating. Of course, if they do get a product support line, the operator probably won’t speak even semi-fluent English!
On the 8.0.2 upgrade, we got the typical “invalid signature” error on install, but did the download only, then install, that worked. Wish I would have read all this before upgrading, now just holding my breath. For people who think it freezes, when you launch itunes setup file, it take a good minute and a half before anything happens. Use that time to reflect on the nonexistent differences between mac and pc software…
This is the most frustrating AND time consuming thing ever. I was perfectly fine with my current version of Itunes. I just bought a brand spanking new Ipod Nano yesterday. Great right? Wrong. Cuz I had to udate to the version 8 of Itunes. Thought I did that. Then when I went to click on it, it said in was configuring, and afterwards prompted me to reboot to complete the configuration. I did. Then the same thing happened the next 4 times I tried it. So I ended up uninstalling the whole damn thing, and reinstalling it, downloading it directly from apple’s website. It seemed that had fixed the problem, but when I turned my computer back on this morning, the same configuring box came up again. So I am taking my Ipod back, and getting rid of Itunes all together. I’m getting an MP3 player and using old faithful windows media player because this is the third major problem I’ve had with Itunes. It;s unreliable.
I can’t even get the update to load. I’ve now been prompted twice to download 8.0.2, and each time the download will not complete because of an unspecified “error.” It tells me that if the problem persists I can try to click on “tools > download manually” but I can’t even find a “tools” menu on iTunes! GRRRRRR.
i read some of the people’s comments
my problems are that all my playlists have been deleted causing me to repath all my music, movies, tvshows, and photos. but now it says everything i bought need a password to be allowed to play (on the exact computer it was originally on!) do they know how much crap i have bought this year? to go back and find all that and retype my password? they better fix this, it’s uncalled for
I’ve had some of the same problems described above and I agree that the solution is to install quicktime separately from itunes.
A few days after upgrading (on Vista) I somehow ended up with a corrupted itl file and followed the online guidance to restore the library.xml file. That gave me a new xml that had none of my playlists and an empty music library. So I restored from my pre 8.02 backup DVDs, which did not complete correctly at the last disk. I eventually fooled it into working by importing the library.xml from the backup disk 1, then did about an hour of manual cleanup because I ended up with duplicates of everything. I haven’t tried syncing the iPod since doing all that. Hope it works.
This software is poorly designed, badly implemented, and extremely poorly documented and supported. Even Microsoft does better software than this. If anyone knows of a viable commercially supported alternative, I’m gonna buy it, give away my iPod, and buy all my tunes elsewhere.
