Apple iPhone 2.2 Firmware Update: Issues and Problems

Apple are working hard, not only have they launched iTunes 8.0.2 Update; they have now released iPhone 2.2 update. The download is 246MB, and has a number of new features. The new update has a number of new Google Map features, like Street View.

This feature runs so smooth on Wi-Fi, and still works great over 3G. Other feature updates include, public transit, over-the-air podcast downloads improved sound quality for visual voicemail, mail enhancements, fewer dropped calls and Safari tweaks. The much needed copy and paste and new MMS features are not in this Apple iPhone 2.2 Firmware Update.

Users are already reporting a number of problems since downloading and installing the update, some of these include: One user was unable to delete emails, another users said that his update failed, iTunes gave him an error but he ignored it and went on with the download, now his iPhone is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen. Another problem is that the auto-brightness stops working properly.

    DO NOT UPGRADE TO 2.2.

This thing is buggy. I just upgraded and I am getting a ‘black’ screen, nothing more, when I try to use the phone.

Serious issues with this upgrade need to be resolved. Wait for 2.2.1

Does any one know how to downgrade to 2.1 ????

I had trouble getting the last version and this time, it is even worse. I actually was able to get the new iTunes version. But when I tried to get the iPhone update to 2.2, at the end it said there was an error. I reported the error. Then I had no phone usage. It gave me no option but to restore. Now I have nothing but a wiped clean phone. I can’t find a way to get back all the apps I bought. Some of the newest ones aren’t even listed on my computer. Same thing with the music. And all of my contacts are gone. I haven’t been able to synch my phone recently–the computer/iTunes screen had changed and there was no way to synch. So I’ve lost everything. I love the iphone when it works but this kind of problem every time there is a change is just plain stupid and a waste of my time. Get the kinks out first people—I’m not a guinea pig. And you are stuck–if you don’t update—you can’t use your apps because they update to the new version. Any one got a solution because as much as I love my iphone, I’m ready to chuck it.

EVERY time I try to update a version, it takes me over an hours. The “unknown error” stoppage hits, and I have to restore the phone at least once. In the middle of updating to V2.2 and stopped again.

Yeah, “Apple, it just works” MY A$$$$$. If I wasn’t under contract, I’d ditch this POS in a heartbeat!

  7. Kacey says:

I hate this freakin update. I get like 50 emails at least daily and now I’m getting that error message that the mail cant be deleted. They need to fix that ASAP.

  8. n2n says:

    Email delete FIX:

Setting > Mail, Contacts, Cal..> “Your Account” > Advance > Delete Mailbox > under “On My Iphone”, click Trash (even though it might already be checked marked). That’s it

if this doesn’t work, then under “On the server” click Trash

  9. kacey says:

    great thanks email problem solved.

just out of curiosity, is anyone experiencing a random and RAPID battery drain? Like the phone is fully charged and then all of a sudden you go to use it and you have like 2% battery life left.

  10. memorex says:

Yeah also here I’ve notice battery drop significantly to dead battery
