Apple iPhone 2.2 Firmware Update: Issues and Problems

Apple are working hard, not only have they launched iTunes 8.0.2 Update; they have now released iPhone 2.2 update. The download is 246MB, and has a number of new features. The new update has a number of new Google Map features, like Street View.

This feature runs so smooth on Wi-Fi, and still works great over 3G. Other feature updates include, public transit, over-the-air podcast downloads improved sound quality for visual voicemail, mail enhancements, fewer dropped calls and Safari tweaks. The much needed copy and paste and new MMS features are not in this Apple iPhone 2.2 Firmware Update.

Users are already reporting a number of problems since downloading and installing the update, some of these include: One user was unable to delete emails, another users said that his update failed, iTunes gave him an error but he ignored it and went on with the download, now his iPhone is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen. Another problem is that the auto-brightness stops working properly.

A subtle but very useful update for the iPhone from Apple. Still no cut and paste as already reported but I’m sure that will come. The one thing I would love to see is auto switching to landscape keyboard mode in horizontal position. Something that occurs in Safari when you browse. Being able to turn off the auto-correct feature when writing text messages or emails is a bonus too as is the more accurate 3G signal display. All up, I’m very happy with this update and so far, no problems to report.

i was in the process of updating to 2.2 today (JST) the update posted no errors and when completed said leave phone connected and it will restart when complete and appear in iTunes.
What happened is the phone began to restart then got stuck at the connect to iTunes screen. iTunes however reported that my phone cant be used with iTunes because the info required for activation can not be obtained from the phone. check that the SIM card is in and the phone is not PIN-Locked….oh, yeah right i took out the damn card and locked it while it was updating…i think not. Now my phone is in a dead state and so far no way to recover it. PISSED OFF is an understatment.

Lucky you Lou…i’d like to just get the damn phone working again

I am glad that apple is continuing to update the firmware, but can they get some priorities straight? Like better integration with exchange calendar invites and some copy paste. I would love to replace my blackberry with an IPhone at work, but these basics need to be provided. Sure Street view is nice, but all its going to do is help me find the soup line if I lose my job because I missed a calendar invite.

One way that you are supposed to be able to fix this is by disconnecting the iPhone, reboot the computer. The computer will try to search for the device driver. Select Install Drivers Later when you can. Open your start menu, right click My Computer, Select Properties, Select Device Manager. The iPhone is listed under Other Devices as Apple Mobile Device. Right click Select Update Drivers. Select Browse My Computer, Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support. Click OK or Next. If it installs backup your phone and update with iTunes. Hope this helps.

Try restarting your computer. Then restart iphone. Then open iTunes and then connect phone to iTunes.

This solved the same problem when I had it a couple of hours ago…

My Iphone was working perfectly until I did the 2.2 update. Now, email does not want to delete. I get an error message stating that mail can not be moved to the trash bin now. Is anyone else having this problem and do you now of any way to fix it? Thanks for any help.

Thanks all. PJ you were the closest i think to a solution. However the driver did install ok. Restarted the computer and all. Still no love. simply telling me it cant obtain the activation info from the phone and to check that the sim card is not locked. it wasnt before the upgrade attempt
