Google shutting down Lively: is Sony Home to blame?

Earlier this year Google launched a new service called Lively, the 3D chat app was a mix between Second Life and Habbo Hotel. Google have announced that they are shutting Lively down at the end of the year; the application has only been running for four months.
This does show one thing, everything Google touches does not necessarily turn to gold. If you have been enjoying hanging out in the custom rooms chatting to people through avatars, then you had better find another hobby.
The team behind Lively will now move on to other projects, what these new projects are, we do not know. There are many reasons why Google have decided to shut Lively down, one reason is because people did not take to it, another reason could be Sony Home. I know that Sony Home is a totally different concept, but why would someone what to use something as basic as Lively, when the ultimate is just around the corner.

It does seem a very short lifespan for something that took so long to set up. Maybe Google has something bigger and better coming up themselves? They very rarely shy out of a market completely.
