Xbox 360 gamers have been waiting for this day to come, and are all wondering when the release time for the NXE update will be. Well the Live update for Xbox Experience is now ready to download, but there is a little shock for those who were looking forward to Netflix movie streaming. Sony Pictures have been blocking their movies.
The guys over at joystiq had noticed that the number of movies available through Netflix has dropped, and it is Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, subsidiary Columbia Pictures who is the culprit. Seems like the new Xbox Experience is not going to be that great thanks to Sony.
Xbox 360 users will not have access to such films as Bad Boys or Superbad, as well as hundreds of other titles. Sony is already hated by a number of Xbox 360 users, now that hate will triple as they have affected was meant to be a great day for the new Xbox Experience.

bothered?… no, i bought my 360 as a GAMES console, maybe Sony should of thought the same when they made the PS3!.. Really looking forward to the new Xbox interface but Netflix is bottom of my list.
Yea, netflix? i dont really care, i bought my xbox for GAMES, not movies, i dont even think ive ever watched a movie on my xbox. Thats what a TV is for,,, or even a computer,,, movies? Xbox? hell no
Netflix,
I do hope, for your sake that you’re not discriminating against your customers. I do thank you for the response and understand that negotiations could still be in the works; therefore, giving you the right to not having a straight answer, as of yet.
I was very excited to hear of the Netflix integration with the 360. So much so, I spent a whole evening putting movies in queue. To my dismay I’ve seen many disappear from my Xbox and marked ‘not compatible with the Xbox 360′ on your website. I do not want to switch between my computer and Xbox 360 to watch two different movies. For lack of a better analogy, it feels like ’segregation’ to me. This also impedes the ‘Movie Comfort Zone’, as I’d like to call it. This includes, but is not limited to, getting excited about a movie or show to get into, so you make sure to turn on the surround sound, set everything up just right and gather your snacks, etc… This is now your zone. No interruptions. Just you and the story you hope to be enveloped in.
On a side note: I do understand that not all movies can be streamed ‘yet’. I do hope, in this regard, that you are working on it.
Likewise, as stated before from others, integrating the choosing of the media via Xbox, should be of utmost priority for Netflix and Microsoft. It is good business for both and and shouldn’t be any reason not to, as Xbox had that option before the new Xbox interface change.
To Everyone,
There are many, from ‘paupers’ to ‘kings’ that want the best quality from there product without discrimination and segregation
Why keep the film/television medias separate? Aren’t TV, Movies, Documentaries, etc… a form of human expression and the free spirit? Why shouldn’t any one of us experience all of this?
Share all media, I say! If it came down to every media service having all media, so be it! Let the services duke it out, for better prices, product quality, customer service, etc… That’s good business and answering consumers’ wants that haven’t been there.
For those businesses that do not believe they get enough complaints to change how they do things? Know that for every complaint written, there are numerous other consumers upset over the same issues. Consider, as well, that not everyone likes writing. I am not a huge fan myself; however, I felt compelled to comment on this absurd occurrence
To Sony,
If you are reading this: which I doubt, because many are aware of your lack of customer service and/or auditory capabilities with what consumers actually want, then congratulations! You’ve taken a first step towards the road of good business/listening.
I am almost without words with your reaction to the Xbox 360playing your licensed Movie/TV media. Hello! More money? Isn’t that what you want? More so, consumers. From creating a bad online experience, hardware that steers away many software developers and now taking away from your customers? What were/are you thinking?
I and many others will not have anything to do with Sony and it’s constituents until you learn!
For everyone that read this, I thank you! This comment was a bit winded and I do apologize, but hope you get something from what was said:)
Thank You,
Psyph3r
Apparently those of you that aren’t taking advantage of the full potential of XBOX 360 don’t know what your missing and more power to you. I too used to only care about gaming on my XBOX until I found I could stream my Netflix Instant que to it. Now I use it all the time. I really enjoy the ability to instantly stream movies to my XBOX 360. Its a very convient and fast way to get movies from my Netflix que. I still get my blue rays in the mail too but its nice to know I have other faster options. In regards to Sony’s apparent reaction to XBOX’s movie streaming I believe its a bit over dramatic for them to make such a big deal out of it. They may be using this as future leverage to maybe get more people to switch to streaming on the PS3 but as far as I know thats not something that is currently available and its not as convient. Right now all they are doing is making Sony fans upset and unhappy that do choose to utilize the XBOX 360 for streaming.
