Microsoft has sold almost 25 million of their Xbox 360 games consoles, and their Xbox Live was looking a little tired. Gamers demand more now, so Microsoft needed to come up with the goods to keep them happy. Well today Microsoft has done just that with the launch of Xbox Experience, and the Live update is now ready for download.
This new version of Xbox Live is Microsoft’s big push into social networking, but it does not stop there. Microsoft have now introduced Avatars into the new Experience, something which they knew worked well with Nintendo Wii users.
One of the best features has to be Netflix, which is something that could help the Xbox 360 become even more popular. It was no secret that Microsoft used to favor HD DVD, but that media format lost out to Blu-ray. Microsoft has said that they will not back Blu-ray; instead they would prefer live streaming HD content, which is where Netflix comes in.
Download the new Experience now and let us know what you think.

Typical of microsoft extortion tactics:
I play madden 09 online, so downloaded the update when prompted. It “failed” and told me to buy a hard drive or bigger memory card. So now I can’t connect to play, as I did before this so called “improved” game experience.
To boot, it downloaded enough that I have to select “load disc” from a menu prior to starting any game. How is that an improvement? Starting a console and loading a game is the most basic part of any gaming experience. Now they are forcing an extra step before you can play a game? Thats horrible!
Craigslist here I come…
WELL SMARTASS [REFERRING TO THE VARNEY] ORWHATEVER, IF U WOULD NAVIGATE A LITTLE MORE TROUGH SYSTEM OPTIONS U WOULDNOTICE THERES AN OPTION CALLED “STARTUP” AND IT LETS U CHOOSE WHAT TO START WHE U TURN ON UR 360 [MEDIA CENTER, DASHBOARD OR DISC IN TRAY] AND THERES ANOTHER OPTION 4 AUTOMATICALLY START PLAYING ANY DISC U POP IN! ITS ALL ARROUIND BETTER!!!
Well…..same sound problem. You can get around it by doing the following: eject the harddrive, boot the system. Once booted up, snap in the harddrive and it will reboot….you now have sound…BUT, i have then experenced problems too numourus to post here. This is very poor testing and planning by MS. There is no way to roll back the change, and they (xbox live) you can not get on xbox live without taking the update. Mine is 3 weeks old and going back to the store tomorrow……I am done with this.
I hear the problems all and sundry are having with their console after applying the update. as frustrating it it there will be a patch to rectify, just like an computer based system. swap your cables to perhaps component and spdif optical and get on with enjoying the good things about the console. lifes to short to bitch and groan when you have when another avenue to use the console.
Cable swapping didn’t fix my problem and either did swapping the harddrive because I do not have one. (Arcade Version) After applying the update there was no sound so I returned my x-box to the retailer where I purchased it 3 weeks before and exchanged it for another. This time around I never connected the console to the Internet, that’s my fix until they release an updated NXE. Called Microsoft tech support and they won’t acknowledge the problem so I’m eeery with going LIVE on this one, nor am I willing to try to bake it with a few towels.
NO SOUND = NO FUN
hey ,
justt downloaded the new ‘update’ and my sound failed . i can play the game but with no sound . I have it connected via a hdmi ‘ 4 slot’ box with the dvd also attached . I simply turned off the xbox . Took ‘hard drive off ( elite xbox) . Started the xbox .After the xbox green logo / globe came up i slotted the hard drive back in and straight away my sound came back .
hope this helps for ppl with an ‘ Elite ‘
I know how to fix the sound we are missing. Make sure your xbox is off, take out your hard drive. Turn the xbox on (with the hard drive still out) and when it loads to your dash board put the hard drive back in and ta-da! Sound!! Its a temp. fix until they figure this out.
did new download now can’t play final fantasy any ideal
i got the sound problem as well people…..but i think i found out what is wrong….with mine anyways. i got the recharger kit plugged into the REAR USB. if i fiddle with it….i dont even know what i do to tell ya’s the truth…the sound comes back on. i dont even wanna turn it off anymore….i ordered the HDMI adapter bungle with the optical audio plug to run it through the surround sound. i called microsoft as well…they eventually told me they were sending me a box to get it replaced / fixed, whatever. that was almost 2 weeks ago. people have told me they got their repair boxes in like 3 days? so is microsoft saying go scratch or what?
just returned my xbox last night went live again and no sound. The fix works poping hard drive out with power on, then back in but I should not have to do this on a second brand new system. Also microsoft does not acknowledge the problem is disturbing to say the least. I may consider psp3 loved the psp2 without any problems ever.
