Regarding the Goodyear GPS units - yeah, I agree that they looked pretty good. So I bought one just before Xmas - model #GY145C. Have you tried using one of these yet? They are, in my opinion, crap. The Points of Interest function is extremely limited, except for telling you where every tire dealer in the world is located. For example, it did not recognize, and therefore could not locate, any Best Buy locations in the US and Canada. I searched for nearby shopping, and I got several tire dealers nearby, and my local university’s bookstore was #2 on the shopping list. Also, it often cannot recognize a signal so the unit has to route from the “last known location”. I have good reason to support Goodyear and buy their units, but unfortunately, have to be wise with my money and return this for a refund. I’ll be purchasing a Garmin unit which I have had more success with.
I just got the very last goodyear GY130 at HEB plus, our local grocery store for 45 bucks! yay for after christmas markdowns, I absolutely love it, its better than my husbands 160 dollar unit. Great points of interest, shopping, restaraunts, all you need. Its simple, easy to use. I live in a rural area and it recognizes every dirt road back in the “boonies” as all my friends call it. Easy setup too, no computer required. It gets me exactly where I need to go, quickly. I cant wait for my next road trip, this thing will definitely be useful.
I purchased the goodyear gps for truckers. It is an awful waste of $500. It has extremely poor routing, refuses to use certain highways, and if you take a different route than it plans for you, it will try for 2 hours to get you to make a u turn (even on a two lane road), and frequently just turns itself off forno known reason. Thefirst one I got I thought was defective so exchanged it, the second one was no improvement. Now, three months after wasting my money on the goodyear, I have purchased the Rand-McNalley TND-500 Trucker GPS and am getting the functionality I wanted in a GPS.
