Xbox 360 Recession-Proof: Are Microsoft Wrong?
By: Alan Ng | November 18, 2008 | 4 CommentsThe recession related posts keep coming now, and today we have heard that Mindy Mount, the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division has said that the Xbox 360 is a recession-proof product that won’t be affected by the economical effects that may occur within the world at the moment.
Hang about; didn’t we just hear the same thing about World of Warcraft saying that they won’t be affected either by the Recession? It seems that all the big companies are queuing up to assure the public that they won’t be affected by the recession. I wonder who will be next to come out and make a big statement to the media.
Back to Mindy’s comments as she believed that the Xbox 360 will be targeting an install base of more than 25 million by the end of this month, a figure that will mean they over take numbers sold by the original Xbox. Another fair comment she makes is the fact that more families are now interested than ever in purchasing a console as they believe that they offer entertainment opportunities for the entire family, especially with all the console price cuts that have happened.
