Epson has announced the launch of their first sheetfed scanners, the Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 and WorkForce Pro GT-S80. Both scanners have been optimized for office, workgroup and departmental environments.

The Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 can scan at 25 ppm and 50 ipm, making it the perfect scanner for the busy office. The Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S80 offers scan speeds of up to 40 ppm and 80 ipm, making it productive and affordable.

Both scanners are able to scan things from documents up to 8.5” x 36” to rigid ID card, at fast speeds. The GT-S50 costs $499, and the GT-S80 cost $899, not cheap but they will certainly pay for themselves in time. For more information visit: www.epson.com

    Pros:
    Fast duplex scanner
    Fast OCR
    Includes TWAIN and ISIS drivers.

    Cons:
    OCR is several years old.
    Old software interface.
    Lousy customer support.

I purchased the Epson GT S50 scanner in November 2010. It worked well, but produced dark lines on the sides or bottoms of pages. Epson’s (offshore) customer support, had me send it to their service center. The service center ordered special pages to fix the scanner’s alignment.

Epson refused to pay the return shipping. So, I had to pay an extra $30 for Epson to fix its own defective product. Epson’s customer service, refused to reimburse the $15 return shipping. Fujitsu does not do this for the Scansnap S1500.
