COD5 Problems: Just Sony PS3 or Xbox 360 as well

By: Daniel Chubb | November 18, 2008 | 27 Comments

Having only tested Call of Duty 5: World at War for a few hours we have not been able to test everything but in this short time we have noticed something really bad with the Sony PS3 version…connecting to friends.

Surely these COD5 problems are not just with the Sony PS3 version of the game, the Xbox 360 must have them as well. If you have played the 360 COD 5 then please confirm if you have had connection problems.

Some gamers have been sharing their problems with Product Reviews, one gamer said “Had the game since sat and not once stayed in the same team twice in a row! keep getting kicked out. Also unable to join with friends either when I invite them or they invite me! Very disappointing”.

Another person who has had no problems with COD 4 connecting from Canada to UK users had this to say “My husband has been playing COD4 online with his friends from the UK, (we are in Canada) however since we bought COD5, he can no longer play online with his friends from the UK. It still shows they are on his friends list, he can message them, he has tried to deleted them then reinvite them, we have tried everything including the download, he keeps getting an error, unable to join party message!!! Really really frustrating”.

Are these Call of Duty 5 gamers alone and is this issue tied to just the Playstation 3?

I recently bought COD5 and I’ve played a few games with some friends on my friend list and it worked fine for me. It depends on your connection and who your connecting to. I have trouble getting in a chat room on ps3 with just this one particular guy, and I’ve heard things of the same nature from 360 owners, not being able to connect to certain people and so on. Try having different players as the host each time and see if it works.

Well, I just got Call of Duty: World at War for the Playstation 3 yesterday and I initially had a problem connecting to my friend’s parties. After about 3-5 invites I was able to get into the parties and stay in them. As far as the online, its a bit more robust in terms of host stability and host migration (the game tells you why the Host Ended the Game, a great feature),

must just be a PS3 thing, ive had no such problems with my 360 copy, all friends, teams, party’s etc work fine, no getting booted unless my net crashes, shame to hear PS3 version is having these issues, it really needs these games to keep up with 360

    it’s not COD5.

No problems with COD5 connections, but COD4 is now a nightmare. Unable to join friends and matches ending early due to server errors. Huff

I have found that since COD5 was released I get a “server time out” error and the end of nearly every COD4 game it hangs on the rankings screen the disconnect with the error message showing. I bought COD5 and after an hour on the console I had clocked up a game time for 11mins, due to disconnects and server time out errors. It takes ages to connect to a COD 5 match and some times not at all and I have toexit all the way out and back in, this is exactly what used to happen when COD4 was released. Fingers crossed these are teething issues BUT STILL REALLY ANNOYING :(

I have had a similar problem with connectivity and i traced to the motion sensor in the controllers. if the motion sensor option is disabled the problem goes away.

  • Steverapp

Ive got a ps3 u say disable motion sensor how do u do that?

  • ben

have both I got 1 for my ps3 but online was MIA so got the 360 version the same day and no problem with it. Ps3 dousnt feel like a online type of system, explaines why they dont charge you. If they did it would be considered a crime : )

i bought COD: WOW on the x-box 360 and ps3 last night, the ps3′s online works really smoothly with no problems, on the same connection on the xbox i couldnt get into a single match withou being kicked or having the host end the game. other problems with the 360 version include textures not being as good as the ps3′s, these are both un-biased views as i actualy have no preference over the ps3 or xbox 360.

i am trying 2 play online, and all i get is a message saying downloading game settings…. NOT FAIR! LOL! its not just me most of my friends (in uk) are having problems, at first it would get me into the lobby and when i go to find game it says downloading game settings,,, then,,, i restarted everything, my router, ps3 and even switched my tv off LOL! but to no effect. now all it does is before i select multi player is says downloading game settings,,, fair enough cod4 had some probs but nothing like this,,, activision make a much better script then the cod5 people,,,… p.s modern warefare set the trend, why go back to ww2? why not do like a ww3 theme,,, china against the rest of the world,,, with similar if not futuristic weapons,,, big let down.,,,, pps …also most of the top 50 are cheaters,,, doing same old moves to get up in the ranks,,, no remedy for some cheating

  • Wanky

COD5 PS3 SUCKS balls online is crap i can never get a game with my friends because it never lets us invite each other yet me and my bro who is in the next room can. I just want to play the zombie mode with my mates but it just says session ended. Never had this with cod4. And i agree why go back to WW2 its been done to death.

This online needs to be sorted out because its not fair. I dont want to be too negative but its all true and my bandwidth and router are nop of the range a lot of money has been spent on them so it has to be the games server.

  • deej

i have a problem also, i play cod 5 ps3 and when i try to join my friends party all it takes 2 mins then says error this party is no longer available.

i think they need to sort this out it is pathetic how it does this and more people are goin to be giving ps3 a bad name because xbox 360 users dont seem to be having this problem.

  • Omar

    YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

  • Omar

Me and my mate Sonny_SW3 cannot connect to each other it’s very hannoying you know. :(
I just want to play online with my mates but it keeps on saying “game session no longer available”
I can’t play nazi zombies with them, so I have to wait for another friend who rarely comes online to invite us into a match.

    SONY FIX THIS PROBLEM!
    thanks

Have i had problems? yes ALL THE ABOVE! And whatsmore playing anyone across the atlantic( from canada to mexico) is a joke. They appear to take twice as many bullets to kill wheather running, standing still, shooting at someone else etc . It also appears that here in the UK we are playing the game at a huge time disadvantage ie. you are expecting an enemy player to come through a window and you fire on him as he starts to climb in (dot dead centre and hit indicator confirming that every shot from your automatic weapon is on target) and you are dead ! You watch the deathcam replay and you see him climb through the window, stand, aim and shoot at you while you don't even fire untill after he has got several rounds into you with the same weapon as you have. It's not a lucky headshot. You are not being fired at by someone out of your vision. No stray bullets are coming through the wall, it just simply seems that your enemy is playing with a huge time advantage and you are just there to be a casualty. I have several friends in the USA and conversations and experiments with them during games seems to confirm the "time" problem.
