HD DVD is a format that is long gone, the winner of the High Definition war was Blu-Ray, but buying a Blu-Ray player is often expensive. There are a few cheap options on the market, and the Memorex MVBD2510 Blu-Ray Disc Player is just one of those.
To get the best from a Blu-Ray player, you need to have a HD Ready or Full HD TV, 1080i or 1080p respectively. When you do connect the Memorex MVBD2510 Blu-Ray Disc Player, you will need to use a high quality HDMI cable.
The player supports Multi-channel audio content, great for Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. The Memorex MVBD2510 Blu-Ray Disc Player also has a USB 2.0 Port, ideal for plugging a USB Flash Drive in, to view pictures, play music files or watch home movies on. Woot currently have the Memorex MVBD2510 Blu-Ray Disc Player on offer for only $139.99

“HD DVD is a format that is long gone,” could not be a more inaccurate statement, HD-DVD is all but 1st in China, it has been resurrected under the product title “HD-DVD China.” It is clear that China chose the more economically sound product, while Blu-ray is an undoubtedly superior technology, retooling DVD plants for Blu-ray is outrageously expensive as opposed to the process for HD-DVD, it does not make sense to me that a format requiring so much more retrofitting of current plants (Blu-ray) could have won, I applaud sony’s technical breakthrough, but I give 10 thumbs down to the economic decisions they made, licensing costs and DRM being the two worst stunters of Blu-rays growth. I sincerely hope HD-DVDs get resurrected someday in the states. My tucents;)
Polytopal, HD-DVD is dead. Get your head out of your ass and get over it.
Yeah. As fucking awesome as it might be for China, HD-DVD no longer exists in the US. Do you really think we care about how much they have to fix plants to make the product that should have been standard in the first place? Cost was the only thing holding it back, and now that prices are finally starting to come down, HD-DVD never needs to be mentioned again.
Which brings me to my next point: how is this tech sheet regurgitation a review? And what the hell does HD-DVD have to do with anything? Either rename your website “meaningless-product-regurgitation.net”, or wait until you get your hands on something to post about it. Sheesh.
For what it’s worth, I’ve got one of these players. So since this review site neglected to review it, I’ll share my experience.
Overall it’s a fine player for the money. I expected it to be just like a DVD player, but it isn’t The picture and sound are of course much better as would be expected, but the controls are very unresponsive. The remote & the front panel are both very slow to respond. Pressing the open button when there’s no disc present, usually results in a nearly instant ejection of the tray on most DVD players. Not on this. The delay is often in the neighborhood of 10 seconds or more. It makes it difficult to know if you’ve even successfully pressed it. I’ve a had a movie just freeze once too. About 6 minutes in the picture just froze and none of the controls would respond. I ended up having to pull the plug to reset it.
BOTTOM LINE:
It’s a $130 Blu-ray player. If you’ve got to have one and don’t want to spend a ton of money, it’ll work. I recommend plugging it in in area that’s easily accessible as you may need to “reset” it on occassion.
I bought this BD player and i agree with everything Chip said… Except i am looking at reviews and no one is mentioning that you CANT turn off the unit with the remote but you cannot turn it on using the remote! I have tried the factory Memorex remote and also have tried my logitech 880. It will do everything but turn the damn thing on! AM I the only one with this problem????
I bought this player for the 2008 holiday. Unfortunately out of the box it would lock up and freeze during playback. It is also very slow to react to button pushes etc. I have tried to get the product fixed but Memorex does not stand by their products. They know this player has issues and they are just dumping them on the market at low prices to get rid of them. If you buy this product expect to be disappointed. It was only $150 but that is all a waste now. Get a $300 player or hold off until the better products come done in cost.
DO NOT BUY!!
they never update it. last firmware update was dec. 24th. they expected a update jan. 5th…. it’s feb 20th and nothing yet. most new movies do not play in it, i have wasted $40 in movie rentals i have had to take back. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP!!
Agreed with the guy above. DON’T BUY.
This thing is crap. I’ve had it since November. They came out with ONE firmware update in December, which made some discs work but other still don’t play at all. (still won’t load any disc from lost season 3 blu-ray). They have been promising a new firmware for 3 months now and keep pushing the day back. I doubt they are even working on it. I feel like they might be abandoning this player. Do not buy unless you can pick it up for under $100. Then I guess it’s a suitable media player since you can stick a thumbdrive in and play HD-avi files and such.
