RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 vs Storm

By: Peter Chubb | November 15, 2008 | 5 Comments

RIM has been working hard to get a host of new BlackBerry handsets out before the start of the holiday season. Just recently the BlackBerry Bold was released, but that was not enough for RIM, so decided to launch the Curve 8900 and the newest handset, the BlackBerry Storm.

Let us go through a few of each phone’s features, just to see how they compare to each other. The BlackBerry Curve 8900 has a TFT display with 480 x 360 pixels offering 65K colors. The Full QWERTY keyboard and Trackball navigation makes using the RIM device easy. Other features include 3.15 MP camera with flash, Built-in GPS, aGPS function, microSD (TransFlash) up to 16GB and GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 / GSM 850.

Now we will look at the specs and features of the BlackBerry Storm. High resolution 480 x 360 pixel TFT color display, 3.2 MP camera, Video Recording, Built-in GPS, SurePress touch screen, Bluetoothv2.0, 1GB onboard memory, and much more.

On paper both phones look very equal, which of the two would you choose?

    I have NO CLUE!
    Looked at both extensively today.
I have large hands and no matter what I tried the sure keyboard thingie wasnt sure. Also the agent helping me was having a bit of various problems as well…not a good sign
    Im still confused.

I work at a call center for one of the leading cellphone companies as a technical support agent… I really like both of these devices… I am supposed to be getting a new phone and have been looking very closley at the two devices… The thing for me is going to be which of the phones has the most problems… When we get the Storm I am going to be paying attention to which phone I get the most technical issues about… At that point the least calls chooses the winner! Both phones though, in my opinion are going to be GREAT!

Coming from using a flip-phone without a querty keyboard for messaging, I have not been trained with either a standard Blackberry querty keyboard or a touchscreen keyboard.

I have large hands and spending time with both models, I find the Storms interface touchscreen in landscape mode much easier to use than the tiny buttons of the Curve.

Also, tried my friends iphone. It is a cool toy, with lousy reception. Although a bit faster to type on, I decided I love the validation of the ‘click’ on the Storm.

You need to complete the learning curve before judging. The full-screen web browser on the Storm is amazing compared to the small screen on the Curve.

Blackberry has very serious phones for work, and I am a businessman and would prefer Curve at once. Why?
Because it is very simple to use and the only thing about storm is that it is a failure as RIM tryed to make a cheap copy of Iphone…but Iphone is Iphone and blackberry is blackberry!

Just bought a curve for personal use – loving it – use a puny little pearl for work (employer issued).
