Good & Bad: Blackberry storm vs iPhone vs T-mobile G1

There is always going to be comparisons between these phones, but what are each phones strong points? The iPhone and the T-mobile G1 are already out, but the Blackberry storm has just been released today in the UK. Does it have the potential to be the best phone out of the three?

Let’s start with T-mobile’s phone the G1 and highlight its good and bad points. One of its best features has to be its large glass capacitive touchscreen complete with QWERTY keyboard. As it runs on the Android operating system it can run some great software on it. The web browser that is built into it is built using the same rendering engine as Safari and Google chrome. Some negative things about the phone could be seen in the lack of a touchscreen keyboard or the length of time it takes to boot, otherwise it’s a solid option for those looking for an alternative other than the iPhone.

One of the newest phones out there is the BlackBerry Storm which offers a full touchscreen featuring SurePress technology which the screens depresses slightly when touching objects. It is similar in shape to the iPhone but slightly shorter and thicker. The camera supplied is only 3.2 MP but it makes up for that with a whole host of other multimedia features, particularly its high resolution video capabilities.

Lastly we come to the iPhone which has been on the market for quite some time now. It is a firm favourite in some people’s eyes due to its innovative touch-screen design, which paved the way for other phones to imitate. Integrated iTunes was a big selling point for this phone, as well as the Apple App store, which is also doing very well. At the moment, the iPhone is currently locked to the AT&T network in the US and O2 in the UK.

As we fastly approach Christmas time, I wonder those of you who are looking for a touchscreen phone, which option you will choose to go for. All three of these phones have their strong points, so it will be interested to see which phone comes out winner.

i don’t understand why people think apple innovated the touch screen capability. it’s not even close to being the case. apple was only the first to market it successfully. the tech was already existing way before apple ever used it in their products.

For me it would be the Blackberry. The email and keyboard sold me, cut and paste and being able to use flash and java are also great reasons for the Storm.

Whats this only 3.2 megapixel camera crap for the Storm?

The iPhone has a 2 megapixel camera. Why no mention of that?

It’s amazing to me how many people omit certain things when talking about the Blackberry Storm. Let’s face it, the iPhone is not everything to everyone. It still has quite a few pitfalls considering this is supposed to be the smartphone to end all others.

I am an existing Apple iPhone 3g customer adn have been on varying webstes to read up regarding the storm and see if it was the iPhone beater some are claiming it to be. Without a solid answer i got on the phone to Vodafone and placed my order. Today i recieved my Blackberry Storm.
In comparison to the iPhone its packaging is not as neat however it does come with a pouch and a paper manual for those that dont take to reading lots of information off a screen!
On the negative side vodafone dont send the phone with a memory card so for the meanwhle i have to put up with the 1gb internal memory.

It took a while to load up the phone and me being a virgin to the blackberry world found the menu screen to “boring” and not very user friendly. the camera and the fact that it is able to record videos is defo a plus over the iphone however the touch screen is glitchy and i definitely dont agree with the “clickable” touchscreen.

After trying really hard to fall in love with the storm i give up 3-4 hours in and got on the phone to Voda to see what i could get as a replacement..

The iPhone is not perfect by any means. It crashes too often for my liking however the app store is genius and you can get loads of really cool apps, the majority for free!!

A lot of people will probably disagree however I feel Apple have no need to fear, their title is safe!

I agree with Ahmed but I am going to take it a step further. The storm is a nice phone for now but the mac os is far more faster and user friendly os and what people dont seem to realize is that the iphone can do virtually anything that any of these phones in todays market can do its just a matter of Steve Jobs saying get it done….. why he doesnt is beyond me.

    Examples:
    forwarding text messages
landscape typing while texting or emailing
    viewing picture texts
    video recorder
ability to create one touch groups to text to
    viewing java and flash

any body that knows better knows that the iPhone can do all those things…. again its a matter of Steve Jobs saying make it happen.

it has been done when the first generation iPhone was unlocked and all those programs were there. but Steve Jobs put a stop to it????????

as far as the Blackberry is concerened i feel it has a bit of a cumbersome feel to it it didnt have a unique feel to it if that makes any sense.

Overall I feel the iPhone is still the faster and better phone regardless of its few faults because I know that when the time comes iits few faults will no longer be faults and the iPhone will again blow everything out the water like Apple usually does. So everybody can continue to play catch up with Apple..

iPhone 2.2 software hasn’t crashed once on me… Safari is blazing fast. BB Storm is good because competition is good. Would it lure me away from my iPhone 3g? No wifi, no deal!

Me again. After writing the above revew i thought i was being a little harsh so rather then put it away in the box and revert to using my n95 8gb whilst waiting for vodafone to deliver my n96 i thought i would give it another chance to grow on me.

The clickable touch screen is something that I did grow to like and it was a weird feeling when going o use my iphone 3g as i was pressing down on the screen. However i have noticed more cons then pros during my additonal time with the phone.

During a call with the phone pressed against your ear it is notlike the iPhone who switch off the screen until you pull the phone away from your face again. This meant i twice put the phone on loudspeaker accidentally and once muted the call!! Something simple but genius from the iPhone.

Also during the course of the day i found the storm had gone back to the first screen when you switch the phone on asking for my PIN number. No calls could be received when the phone was in this state.

Sorry to be so negative regarding the storm however my last fault with the phone is its accelorometer (if that is how it is spelt!) It goes sideways and even when you turn the phone back to portrait the screen is still in landscape mode!! and this can get quoite annoying.

So after another couple of hours of use i decided to call vodafone and tell the lady that i had made my mnd and wanted to send the phone back. I had to wait 43 mnutes to speak to somebody and when i finally got to speak to an operator he aplogised for the delay saying everyone seems to want to send the storm back today!!!

Finally despite its faults and even though i decided to send it back it did start to grow on me. It has a weird charm and although it will never replace the apple to those that want to stay on vodafone as it the premier network then it is a decent alternative but for me the apple wins hands down!!!

I dunno why people think Apple designed a touch screen capable phone, they were around for years before the i-phone came out, I myself had to Pocket PC phones though t-mobile, the 1st Generation Siemens & the HP6315, both were more inovative for there time & helped pave the way for Apple.

  9. Matthew says:

If Steve would’ve released the iPhone to OTHER cell companies we would NOT be having this conversation. But ONCE again Jobs shows his LACK of initiative…which is WHY Apple will FOREVER be #2
