Spam drops 40% after California hosting service shut down
By: Peter Chubb | November 13, 2008 | Leave a CommentFinally some great new for us computer users, Spam has dropped by 40 percent thanks to a California hosting service being shut down. The hosting service used to host a major bot, which used to inflict so much pain on so many of us.
The Washington Post reported that McColo Corp. was finally taken offline when its main providers cut their connection to the Internet. The newspaper reported that some of McColo’s clients included cybercriminal groups, they were responsible for running some of the biggest spam and malware-spreading botnets.
In the month of October, it was estimated that over 190 billion spam messages were being sent each and every day. Now that figure is likely to drop to 112 billion, a decline of 41 percent. Let us hope that more servers that host these bots are shut down soon.
