HTC MAX 4G: first GSM / WiMAX phone

The HTC MAX 4G was first known as the T8920, HTC understand that GSM does not work that well in the U.S. so have also thrown in WiMAX, as well as CDMA radio for good measure. HTC wants to make this a mighty phone that can challenge their TouchHD.

The HTC MAX 4G is an 800 x 480 resolution cell phone with 8GB of flash memory on board. The phone also has two cameras, WiMAX support, EDGE, GPS, triband, WiFi, FM radio and more.

The HTC MAX 4G will be launching on Scartel’s Yota network in Russia, if you have a friend who also has the same handset as you, the calls will automatically be routed over the WiMAX airwaves, this is done by using VoIP. As yet there is no launch date, not sure if the phones will do that well any way.

This is great for the WiMAX in general but looks like us in US might have to wait a while or maybe wait for other WiMAX handsets from other manufacturers.
